No magic bullets but I am aiming to (a) introduce element of students logging use of AI in their assessments and (b) try and assess understanding of verbal material delivered/discussed in seminars where no textual material generated.

I have no magic answers and I share your sense that we are at a tipping point. But I am more optimistic and do feel there are ways to assess which can address the use of AI without resorting to in-class exams. But we need to start trying these out now.

Don't miss our interview with Crick prizewinner James Hampshire on the political economy of immigration since Brexit.

Is May looking at Sunak or Badenoch? Quite a glare.

A really interesting extended podcast about populism by Lewis Waller, that uses an extended interview with me. A long watch but it's very thoughtful. If you have an interest in populism - and the time for something extended on the topic - I recommend watching it.

The very best research seminars push me to think about what I (think I) already know and tell me stuff about things I have no idea about. Sussex Politics seminar by our visiting fellow Sofya du Boulay talking about ‘Manufacturing Obedience: Media Coercion in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan’

Really interesting reseach seminar today at Sussex from @russellfoster.bsky.social on ‘Brexit and Brexit-Lit’ showing a link between novels and the contestation of Europe. Love a seminar that I leave with ideas for novels to read under the guise of research.

Just out - mine and Anthee's short piece on responses to populism in this fantastic symposium on populism & democracy put together by @paultaggart.bsky.social & Cristoval Rovira Kaltwasser in PS. Lots of short, up-to-date pieces by those in the know - really good for teaching purposes!
