Isn't it the other way round? Writing (which we invented <10kya) is the brain hack. People are arguably forming far worse parasocial relationships with LLMs than they are with anime waifu pics, for example.

I went to a comprehensive in the north of England, and there was a lot of it. I think they mostly died of heroin overdoses, so no way of finding out if they changed their minds 50 years later. The '70s and '80s we're pretty grim up there.

I don't think we need to speculate, because this wasn't a step change, it's been a gradual process going on for decades - the % of gen X affected < % of millennials < % of gen Z, of course, but there are certainly people who've been in this situation for 30 years or more already.
