All of us are creatures of a day; the rememberer and the remembered alike. All is ephemeral-both memory & the object of memory. The time is at hand when you will have forgotten everything; and the time is at hand when all will have forgotten you.

British Transport Police's decision to not investigate bike thefts outside train stations where bikes have been left for more than two hours is really concerning. It could effectively decriminalise it.

Together with Lib Dem colleagues I've written to the BTP to get clarity.

Coz people are that stupid... 🙄

'The European Parliament has voted to ban words like "burger" or "steak" to describe their plant-based variants. The 355-247 vote is seen as a victory for livestock farmers who say the labels threaten their industry and livelihoods.'

As a general point, I am always amused when I hear the Spectator complain about 'the governing class‘.

I mean.
Really?

'The judge found Hamit Coskun's protest to be "disorderly" because it provoked "serious public disorder". That is, because HE was attacked by two passers-by while protesting. In other words, the violent reactions of others were treated as proof of his guilt.'

Who could've predicted Robert Jenrick's crack about seeing no white faces in Handsworth would lead to takes like this? Never heard of this racist but he's got a hundred thousand followers. X in a nutshell.

Donald Tusk is right. In my opinion, Germany's obsession to prosecute those involved in sabotaging the 'Nord Stream 2' pipeline is an attempt to divert attention away from their own role in enabling the project, which undermined European security as it enabled Russian fascists to fund their war.
Tusk says extraditing Nord Stream suspect 'not in Poland's interest'
Volodymyr Z — a Ukrainian man wanted in Germany in connection with the Nord Stream blasts in September 2022 — was detained near Warsaw last month.

📢 🚨New Report - How the UK oil and gas industry spent 15 years pushing for subsidies & incentives for Carbon Capture and Storage rather than regulatory accountability or science-based emissions reductions; maintaining a funding pipeline for a technology yet to deliver on its promises 👇

Global renewable capacity is on course to more than double by 2030.

Solar PV is set to lead – making up about 80% of the rise over this period.

In addition to growth in established markets, it’s also surging in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan & Southeast Asia 👉 iea.li/48SwFS4

On the one hand, medical science is beginning to get a handle on the very complex physiological basis of this disease. On the other hand, we can expect the greatest medical scandal (so far) of the 21st Century – the mass mistreatment and neglect of ME/CFS sufferers – to continue.

Can I just say "Thank you" from the bottom of my heart, George, for your support and solidarity with the much maligned sufferers of this pernicious condition. CFS hit me like a bolt out of the blue in the 90s and it took the best part of a decade to recover. In that regard, I count myself fortunate.

This commission points to where the government is heading. If the problem is “overdiagnosis” – which appears to be its foregone conclusion – then large numbers of people with horrendous conditions will be put through an even more punishing regime of tests and obstacles to qualify for benefits.

In the firing line, as ever, are the UK’s hundreds of thousands of ME/CFS patients. As a practitioner once remarked, “the bastards don’t want to get better”. If there is one characteristic all the ME/CFS patients I’ve come across have in common, it is a desperation to get better.

ME/CFS is a devastating condition that has long been denied, dismissed, psychologised and underdiagnosed. Research is at last starting to catch up with it, with glimmers of hope for those who have been left untreated for so long.
