It was a great moon last night during my bike ride. MUCH more impressive in person than it shows up on my cell phone photo.
Full moon rising over an area of prairie bush south of Saskatoon.

I love Grant Lawrence, especially with The Evaporators.

Interestingly, the narrator pronounced Saskatchewan perfectly. Go figure.

I just finished listening to a great audiobook by Alex Hutchinson, The Explorer's Gene. I really enjoyed it and a lot of points struck a chord. One thing annoyed me though, the narrator's pronunciation of various Canadian and indigenous words. e.g. Chipewyan, portage, Iroquois, Regina...
Screenshot of The Explorer's Gene in the app Libby. The cover shows a mountaineer hiking on snow under the weight of a pack with mountain peaks in the background.

To distinguish various species of flies you have to look very closely at certain features under a microscope, such as the number of hairs on their penis, or the arrangement of certain hairs on a leg.

Hence the word lenticular to describe something lentil shaped, such as a lens.

This talk @musaalgharbi.bsky.social on CBC Ideas that just finished was super interesting. Give it a listen.

Atwood's father was an entomologist which is my background. She drops little entomology tidbits into some of her writing. That is certainly a bonus but it goes so much beyond that.

Last week I learned that if you order a "regular coffee" at the McDonald's in Humboldt, it has cream and sugar added. Since when is regular coffee anything other than black? I've been drinking black coffee for nearly 30 years and did not know this. They seemed confused that I sent it back.

Spotify played The Rolling Stones song Shame, Shame, Shame in my "new release radar". I thought it was the Muppets until I looked at the app. I probably would've preferred the Muppets.

I could play it back to listen in on the whole conversation but I could also punch myself in the head with a sampling drill and I was not going to do that, either.

A new door has been ordered and will be in Kinistino tomorrow. In the meantime, I get to enjoy the fresh air and the canola dust. Thank goodness it's not barley.

It must be a thing with Claas tractors - this is the second time it's happened. Probably was one of my uncles driving cart the first time.

Welp, I now have an open air cab on the grain cart tractor. The wind caught the glass door and whipped it open, smashing it into a million tiny pieces.

Claas Xerion 4500 tractor missing its glass door. I'm parked in a canola field on the stubble. View out the place where a glass door used to be. I'm parked in a canola field on a clear blue windy day.

If I get my chores done today I might go for a drive and bike ride to look for them. I've never seen them in real life before.
