Mr Perks told the jury his recollections were of finding a dark figure in his garden, feeling a blow to the stomach and realising he'd been stabbed. He said he had no recollection of touching a crowbar found at the scene with his DNA on it

The jury had already heard Mr Perks' evidence in a video recorded by police. Today he was cross-examined by a court-appointed advocate as Dr Brooks has chosen not to attend his trial or to have anyone represent him.

Brooks from #Southwell denies all four charges against him - two counts of attempted murder, arson with intent to endanger life and having a bladed article.

The judge has told the jury that, in a "highly unusual" move, Dr Brooks has chosen not to attend the hearing or be represented in court. However, he said this does not affect their task to decide whether he is guilty or not guilty
