As a result of the Big Beautiful Bill, over $900 billion was cut from Medicaid, resulting in an estimated 10 million people projected to lose their health insurance. These cuts put hundreds of rural hospitals at risk of closure and threaten the viability of nursing homes that rely heavily on Medicaid funding. At the same time, millions of Americans began 2026 facing sharply higher and increasingly unaffordable health insurance premiums. And now, this administration is attempting to reframe the small amount allocated in the bill to offset some of those losses for rural hospitals as a historic investment in rural healthcare.
