It was a scene where she'd had a long bolt put through her tongue so as to keep it pulled out of her mouth so that she couldn't talk. Been a while since I read it, but stuck out to me.

My guess would be original-ish story taking elements from each game, but heavily influenced LttP and OoT. I think I just base that on what I played as a kid, though.
