Why is tear gas legal? The Chemical Weapons Convention — an international arms control treaty signed by nearly 200 countries including the United States — bans the use of tear gas (or “riot control agents”) in combat. But the convention does not prohibit the use of tear gas when it comes to “law enforcement including domestic riot control.” This seeming contradiction has long been pointed to as a significant flaw within the Chemical Weapons Convention, leaving the use of tear gas open to interpretation and abuse.

A tightly controlled visit Israel only allows select journalists into Gaza for brief visits escorted by soldiers. We were restricted in who we could interview or film among the soldiers. We did not see Palestinians. As a condition of the visit, Israel's military censor reviewed NPR's raw audio and video. It prohibited NPR from publishing an Israeli military map of Gaza, but did not prohibit the publication of any other material. Middle East Local journalists in Gaza report on the war as foreign journalists still lack access Even now that there's a ceasefire, Israel does not allow journalists to enter Gaza independently. The Foreign Press Association in Israel and the Palestinian territories, of which NPR is a member, has challenged the government at Israel's Supreme Court to let journalists into the territory. The government has a Nov. 23 deadline to tell the court its position on independent entry for journalists to Gaza.

Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, a spokesman for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an interview with Al Jazeera on Sunday, denied Trump’s claims of mass killings of Christians. “We are not proud of the security situation that we are passing through, but to go with the narrative” that only Christians are targeted, “no, it is not true. There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria”, he said. “We’ve continuously made our point clear that we acknowledge the fact that there are killings that have taken place in Nigeria, but those killings were not restricted to Christians alone. Muslims are being killed. Traditional worshippers are being killed… The majority is not the Christian population.” Imomotimi Ebienfa said Nigeria was ready to work with its partners to “fight this scourge of terrorism, but not any passive action that will undermine the sovereignty of our country”.

President Putin congratulated me and the United States on the Great Accomplishment of Peace in the Middle East, something that, he said, has been dreamed of for centuries. I actually believe that the Success in the Middle East will help in our negotiation in attaining an end to the War with Russia/Ukraine. President Putin thanked the First Lady, Melania, for her involvement with children. He was very appreciative, and said that this will continue. We also spent a great deal of time talking about Trade between Russia and the United States when the War with Ukraine is over. At the conclusion of the call, we agreed that there will be a meeting of our High Level Advisors, next week. The United States’ initial meetings will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, together with various other people, to be designated. A meeting location is to be determined. President Putin and I will then meet in an agreed upon location, Budapest, Hungary, to see if we can bring this “inglorious” War, between Russia and Ukraine, to an end. President Zelenskyy and I will be meeting tomorrow, in the Oval Office, where we will discuss my conversation with President Putin, and much more.
