🧵The current coverage in relation to Alberta's new absurd COVID-19/influenza vaccination book and pay policies are missing a key aspect of public health, the implications of healthy/young people not getting the vaccine either.

The University of Alberta made the decision to stop funding all university affiliated child care centres.

Dr. @mmaroto.bsky.social and I wrote about the consequences of this decision and how it will not only harm the university, but the Edmonton community.
Opinion: U of A puts up barriers to access by cutting child care
We call on the U of A to make the choice to continue to support families and the larger community.

🧵Pierre Poilievre has promised harsher punishments for intimate partner violence.

A new op-ed @dekeseredy.bsky.social , @pinglamjoeip.bsky.social, and I wrote for the Conversation Canada shows that these policies are not effective.
Pierre Poilievre’s proposals on intimate partner violence will do little to stop it
There is scant evidence to suggest more punitive measures will discourage violence against women. Policy-makers should instead use a balanced approach that prevents violence before it occurs.

Policymakers concerned for survivors of intimate partner violence could take many steps, such as funding a variety of effective prevention programs.

But Pierre Poilievre’s approach appears to centre the offender — not the victim. Experts write. #CdnElxn2025

I have seen so many discussions on erosion of Canadian culture, most is thinly veiled racism

For me, this is a real example of Canadian values receding. Paying to see a doctor used to be unthinkable, now it is becoming increasingly common

We need to return to strong, publicly funded care for all
Would you pay to see a family doctor faster? Quebecers are, and critics are worried | CBC Radio
Critics say the situation in Quebec should act as a warning of what could happen elsewhere in Canada if incremental steps in the direction of privatization are allowed to add up to giant leaps.
