I've been to Anza-Borrego many times, but I can't think of where you might have taken this photo. Big golf course just south of town?

I thought I was the only one in the world who owned a copy. I found it in a bargain bin in the 70's. Terrific!

Excellent! I have the CD version (also cheap) and disk 1 is in my car player.

Plug in your best headphones and turn up the volume.
You can hear the spittle rattle around in his horn. I have the original issue LP and the super-duper 20-bit CD. Damned if
my much-loved LP still doesn't sound better.

Love theme from Apache still gives me goosebumps.

That RCA Vintage series had some great disks!
Come to think of it, I haven't listened to the Don Redman issue for a while. Off we go. Thanks.

What a spectacular area! Hackberry Cyn is a nice hike, too.

Great to see you back at it this season, Joe! You really enhance the games for me.

$$ compromise. Buy a new set of wheels for your bike.

They come from the same branch of the tenor tree, tone-wise, but I can see why you say "surprisingly". I'm a fan of both, esp. Hawk, my first sax hero, but I think of their, what?, styles, as very different. Now I'm really curious.

This pairing never entered my mind . . . but it should have. What do you think of it?

Casanova's Big Night

Thanks. I'll sample some online tracks. And revisit my Fahey albums today. If you don't have Fahey's Xmas album, it's one of my favorites during the holidays. I'm always on the lookout for new acoustic folkish/bluesish stuff.

Do you have a favorite of his?
September 23, 2025 at 8:13 AM
Wonderful music! Pentangle, Steeleye, Fairport, Renbourn, Jansch, Carthy, Swarbrick . . . a gold mine.

Oooo, well done! I just watched Silver Blaze the other night.

With a David Stone Martin cover to boot? (kind of a bizarre one)

Thanks! I had no idea that he was composing such things . . . in 1933. I'm wallowing in his 40's recordings now looking for more distinctive Hawkins recordings and compositions. Thanks, Proper Records.

A wise choice. We had a few talus slogs on our trip. There's no easy way to get into the Bear Lakes basin.

Great pics and explanation! Keep 'em coming. I did that hike 25 yrs ago over Italy Pass and traverse into Bear Lakes Basin.
Then x-country to Merriam Lk, French Cyn and out.

If you haven't seen the docu, "My Life as a Turkey" by Joe Hutto, a naturalist who raised a brood of turkeys from eggs alone in the backwoods of Florida . . . incredible. It changed my perception of turkeys completely. On youtube.

My parents had this LP. I grew up listening to it (well, hearing it) every time they had friends over. I've had a copy forever and just bought "The Complete Concert" last Winter. "It's worser than Louis Armstrong". Thanks.

Jeeeeez, so good! I had just graduated from high school when he died. <sigh>

A great lineup. Is the music as good as it seems like it would
be?

Thanks for this. Nice find! I'm unfamiliar with Horace and found him on Spotify.
