So, this is a long shot, but: I'm looking to hire a developer/programmer for my non-profit arts org for ongoing part-time maintenance and troubleshooting work on a proprietary database that's coded primarily in VB[dot]net. (I know, long story, it is what it is.) Would appreciate leads/reposts!

I hate having to deal with a legacy system that's stuck on .NET 4.8. Binding errors. I do not miss dealing with those on a daily basis.

Asked on a group chat if a source of info was a delusional hack, and promptly realized that I had just described my aversion to AI coding assistants.

Gah, I know I have a set of ice spikes (the inexpensive ones that go over shoes/boots for hiking/walking), but can't find them for the life of me.

Production release in the bag after a somewhat hectic run over the past week, so time for chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.

Oh, look. The white president who thinks that asylum seekers come from insane asylums, that the Norwegian government gives out the Nobel Peace Prize, that stealth bombers are invisible to the naked eye, and that windmills cause cancer is talking about which black people have a "low IQ" again.

there's no answer to the question 'what's it gonna take?' but that doesn't stop it from popping into my head every goddamn time I look at the news

I feel like the federal government shouldn't be spending hundreds of millions of dollars on an entirely unnecessary, totally unprecedented, and excessively violent occupation of an American city.

Company: We have to raise our prices because the new AI features are expensive for us to maintain 🤷‍♂

Me: I never asked for those features 🤔

C: We gave them to you anyway 🤷‍♂

M: I'm not going to use them 🤨

C: Money, please 💸

I know people on Bsky know this but I hope it filters out: The feds are OCCUPYING the Twin Cities. This is a blockade, a siege. They are shutting down economic and civic activity. They are conducting "papers please" stops. They are criminalizing being a bystander/witness.

You could be next.

Just threw on Agent Porridge, an upstate NY jam band from back in the day. Trying to be better hitting my old CDs/mp3's (before this was a jazz album I forgot I had).

Nice to see at some point MS fixed the UI so I can actually read the missing index recommendation from the query analyzer. Most of the UI changes I've liked, but that bug/design choice was infuriating.

I don't mind cold (so long as I have proper clothing), but cold + wind really blows. ha. ha. ha. But seriously, thought of going for a nice stroll but windchill is 8F.

Finally spending some vacation time on coding a side project and realizing my previous work-in-progress is older than I thought: upgrading to Postgresql 14 (which is now just one step above out of support). Need to schedule more consistent PTO.

Mental note: review holiday beers as they can be strong (and not necessarily taste like it). Glad I checked one that was gifted, as it's 11%! Reminds me I need to be on the lookout for barleywine-style beer, as they tend to be around that (and I haven't seen one in years).

Finally picked up a new phone, but youtube music doesn't do anything when I tell it to download an album. Worked fine on old phone and found a reddit thread that makes it look like an issue for ~5 years. Good times.

Looks like the Mets signed another former Yankee (Weaver, a reliever). Already saw one joke posted about the Yankees being the Mets farm team, and got a nice chuckle.

Was wondering if my apple cider had somehow spoiled quickly, as it had an off taste. Finally looked more closely at the label and realized I accidentally bought "apple pie" flavored cider. Which... oof. Do not recommend. Had a weird off flavor that reminded me of maple syrup somehow?

Whelp, can't say I'm shocked that Pete signed elsewhere (Orioles for 5 years/$155m). Mets will definitely look/feel different next year regardless of the moves they make. I'm assuming not "rebuilding mode" since we're paying 2 stars in their prime a ton. "Re-arming" as a more hopeful view.

Me: this random song is really good. Who is it? (Duke Ellington + Coltrane). oh. yeah, that tracks.

Bummer, just lost family bragging rights. Geneseo just fell in the NCAA d3 soccer tourney to Middlebury. A bit crazy last 10 minutes, so that was fun.

Looking forward to the official 1.0 release for Timberborn, but so far looks like some of the new buildings/mechanics have some teething issues on the experimental build. And yes, that's a beaver pun.

Weird how it can feel colder inside when the wind outside is loud and gusty. A metaphor for something, I'm sure.
