The best resolution to the supposed “paradox” of tolerance that I’ve seen is: Tolerance is a social contract. If you don’t abide by the contract (i.e. exercise tolerance), then you are not protected by it. From that perspective, there is no paradox.

Sorry you’re dealing with this. The abandonment and isolation definitely sucks. You may already know this, but there are a few Covid-conscious community groups in Portland that you can find on Facebook. I know people have had success building relationships within these groups.
