It should! My therapist is so amazing at explaining this to me during our session and made me understand why ppl use art to cope with such heavy feelings and made me feel more open to exploring taboo stuff.

Children draw very violent art (like killing or setting the school on fire) their response is to punish. But the new approach is to understand WHY that child is doing such a thing and understand that this is a way of catharsis for them when all other avenues of communication failed them.

But I went and saw my old therapist again due to events and we got on the subject of making taboo/extremely violent art, and since she also specializes in extreme child trauma, and brought up how back then (and even now), when teachers saw

And also??? Like do you want to know every sordid detail of someone’s trauma? Have them lay it out second by second?? That’s weird! That’s gross! You’re just dehumanizing someone??

Not to mention when I see this convo of “if you don’t have this trauma why do you find x traumatic bad thing your kink??” It’s like saying you gotta go thru that trauma??

Like wow! That is none of your business to know why I like said kinks and to know about my issues you know??

"I don't like it so it's bad" is a baby brained way to move through the world. Sit with and examine your discomforts on your own time, policing other people does nothing for introspection
