yeah it's especially tough because it can very quickly get into "why aren't we talking about X" and it's also ok for the answer to be that things have venues and surviving in the current information landscape requires you to compartmentalize

It's crazy how much understanding you can build about your teammates and their specialties just by.... asking them questions... and talking to them like people with specialized skills that you don't have... why this isn't people's default approach genuinely confuses me

There’s also (from my understanding of agile) an inherently accretive approach to software dev that makes a lot of sense when you’re shipping a word processor but not so much when making something aesthetically driven

(a game is not a pile of features and most software dev methodologies applied to gamedev function more to fulfill requirements to get the team money, not to make the game better)

To be fair, I have worked with producers who took it on themselves to maintain design documentation as iteration happened or to document undocumented designs, which you might consider “overstepping” but really is just filling a gap. Producers are like caulk for your project kinda

If a programmer is somebody who programs than isn’t a project manager somebody who manages a project? And by that measure isn’t every solo dev a project manager as much as they are a programmer, artist, and game designer? It seems a useless distinction.
