Anyone who has visited Bell Labs' anechoic chamber will instantly recall the sensation - or lack thereof!

Was this the work of Randall Snurr's group?

Jer, With your knowledge of and enthusiasm for chemistry and your mentorship skills, high school teaching may be a viable choice.

An idea for Chicago: Would it be possible for everyone (who is able) to wear a face-concealing mask and gloves to conceal skin color and ethnic features so that ICE and other round-up-minded government agents could not apply their biased thinking to apprehend people they think should be detained.

This fall the Lost Women of Science podcast will feature four episodes on the life and work of Katharine Burr Blodgett plus a bonus episode on Agnes Pockels. Hoping the producers will include some of my audio on KBB that took a month to prepare.

Just finished The Brothers Vonnegut: Science & Fiction in the House of Magic, about Kurt and Bernard and how their lives intertwined at General Electric. Excellent read.

We went through a lot of nude mice when I worked in there NIH/NCI Laboratory of Tumor Immunology and Biology, as the only chemist among 70 microbiologists.

In freshman biology class, we were studying about life. Then the exam question was 'What is death?' My blue book scribblings did not merit a good grade.

I love this! A while back it was my job to order 3D-printed CD-MOFs for Fraser to show-n-tell. By the way, did you know that Maye Musk (Elon's mother) was at one time a model for Fraser's skin care company?

I was a "Scout" in the Girl Scouts (and still am a lifelong member). Several years ago together with Fran Kravitz in the Chicago ACS Section I helped write a manual for the Marie Slowdowska Curie Chemistry Patch activity for young girls.

"Youth interested in fitting into an expanding universe and looking to science, because of its natural appeal, is not encouraged by gloomy suggestions of a moratorium in science, or suspension in truth-gaining....We are not injured by knowledge, but by its ignorant misuse." (1933, "Irving Langmuir")

First page of Irving Langmuir's laboratory notebook from his time at Göttingen, where he obtained his PhD with Nernst. Dated 6 August 1904. Image was taken at the U.S. Library of Congress (yes it's still open).

Random comment: Isaac Asimov was for a time listed as "Galactic Correspondent" for The Chemical Bulletin, the monthly newsletter of the Chicago ACS Local Section.

Print originals or copies of Sir Fraser Stoddart's ~1300 publications are now located in the Northwestern University archives, along with MANY other files.

The livestream didn't come through but the May 19 broadcast did. Excellent storytelling by all involved. Thanks for sharing. Ainissa, you had the last word!

On what would have been Fraser Stoddart's 83rd birthday, many of us remember the incredible legacy he has given us.

Hi Beth, Congrats on your 'longevity' at C&EN! Another topic, some of Fraser's former students are planning a symposium in his honor for the Fall 2026 ACS National Meeting in Chicago. So just in case you might want to give a talk, keep that in mind. Best, Peggy (now retired)
