Just realized that it was 7 years ago today that I rang the bell after finishing my cancer treatments. There are no coincidences and I am simply in sync with the universe as I embark on the next phase of my life.

Sometimes if you just get out of the way, you end up right where you need to be. 1990: Milica, a lovely woman who gave two wandering gals water, fruit, and loving hospitality. 2025: Her nephew Artur, offering me her home as my new place of refuge from a crazy world so I can find my light again.

I am not sure, but I think if given a choice to sit comfortably at home with my feet up by the fire or to board an overnight train to Zagreb, I am going to have to choose the train, even if I have no idea what my final destination may look like.

Do I get caught up this morning in the horrors of yesterday’s news,and this risk becoming frozen in the anger and fear for my family and friends (and all those being targeted whom I don’t know), or get up and start doing what I can do to make my immediate world a better place?

So go out and do the good you can, where you can, find joy and love and laughter and companionship, knowing you are the light that will lead the way to a brighter future.

I hope with all of our small lights of hope and kindness, we can help illuminate and lift our bigger world out of the depths of darkness that are upon us.

How does that serve anyone? This time, we are not projecting more anger and fury into the big bad world, but instead, we are going to focus on the micro-spaces where we can continue to shine our lights as darkness looms.
