1. Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us

THEY DELIVERED YET AGAIN! A 5/5 album run for VW. Every track here has a unique element to offer. OGWAU is a mashup of their previous 4 albums and they blend a nostalgic & fresh sound really damn effectively.

Favorite Track: Mary Boone

2. The Cure - Songs of a Lost World

It’s amazing that Smith’s vocals are as good as ever and the arrangements of the tracks are stellar. Being able to experience a new Cure album is something I thought I’d never witness and it’s everything I could imagine

Favorite Track: Alone

3. Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D

I also cannot believe this isn’t my AOTY. Porter is now 3/3 for albums and they’re all sonically different from each other. It’s sooooooo good but somehow it comes out a year where 2 albums that are better, care out…

Favorite Track: Cheerleader

4. acloudyskye - There Must Be Something Here

This album has such fantastic production and has its mix of emotional tracks as well as pure bangers. TMBSH is the most defined acloudyskye’s sound has been so far and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Favorite Track: Surface

5. Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

Front to back of pure vibes. No skips. Some of the best synthpop out there today on this record and includes a lot of standouts. I was not familiar with Magdalena Bay before this… but I sure as hell am now.

Favorite Track: Angel on a Satellite

6. Parannoul - Sky Hundred

The first time I heard this album was when it surprised dropped on YouTube a few days before it hit streaming services. It had so many jaw dropping moments and the atmosphere of the tracks will send you to another world.

Favorite Track: Evoke Me

7. The Story So Far - I Want To Disappear

TSSF IS BACK! No Pressure was a great filler to hear Parker Cannon in between TSSF projects but it’s so great to hear him back with this project. Oh and here features his best writing too.

Favorite Track: Keep You Around

8. Clairo - Charm

It pains me that this is at 8 because this is probably Clairo’s most consistent album. The only one, in my opinion, that’s no skips, and does it in a concise way that’s easy to consume. The production on this is also killer.

Favorite Track: Sexy To Someone

9. Wavedash - Tempo

I am really glad this mixtape is on par with what they did on World Famous Tour. It was a different sound than what I was expecting from them, showing a more upbeat house and fun side of Wavedash I did not know they were capable of.

Favorite Track: Had2Go

10. Glacier - here (not rly) there

Glacier’s debut showcased what he’s best at. Incorporating organic sounds into an electronic music/jazz fusion. I’m glad to see him put out material that’s worthy of following up his Temple Inward EP way back when.

Favorite Track: not rly

Tomorrow, I will begin my list for my top 10 albums of 2024 (on this thread). Before that, here’s a list of albums that did not make the cut but I did not want to leave out. (In no particular order):
January 8, 2025 at 2:42 AM
1. Porter Robinson - Cheerleader

Instant classic and probably Porter’s best song- that would be difficult to determine. I remember hearing the previews of this one and being so excited for it to come out and I’m so glad that it lived up to the hype because that is difficult.

2. Dev Lemons - Why Did I Laugh Anyway

Quadeca production masterclass. The payoff for this song might be up there with some of the best. The first time I heard it, I was left in awe. When Dev is not making songs on mute, she actually pops off.
January 5, 2025 at 3:09 AM
3. Vampire Weekend - Mary Boone

When this one dropped, I knew this would be my favorite on the album. The beat. The choir. Ezra’s vocals. It’s all at their best here. I love when VW does stuff that sounds different from the norm and this is a perfect example of that.
January 4, 2025 at 1:18 AM
4. Veronica Everheart - Microcosm

I could gatekeep but I think that more people need to see the great work that Veronica Everheart is putting out there. Such a unique song and it’s so good. Also off one of the best EP’s of the year too. I can’t wait to see what she makes next!
January 3, 2025 at 2:30 AM
5. Porter Robinson - Is There Really No Happiness?

Nostalgia anthem that came out in 2024. And in my opinion, similar vibes to ‘trying to feel alive’ (if that makes sense). I was sold on this one immediately and it kept growing on me more throughout the year
January 2, 2025 at 12:27 AM
6. Anatole Muster & Juliana Chahayed - Wonderful now

Discover Weekly actually cooked for once. I needed a song like this so bad. Juliana’s vocals are so good here, the beat is fire, and there’s even a really good accordion solo. Plus that frutiger aero vibe>>>
December 31, 2024 at 11:40 PM
7. The Cure - Alone

The fact Robert Smith’s vocals are practically the same as they’ve always been is so impressive. What’s even more impressive is his ability to create one of their best songs ever, IN 2024! This song floored me the first time I heard it and it still hits hard
December 31, 2024 at 1:03 AM
8. Porter Robinson - Russian Roulette

Maybe Porter’s best lyrics aside from Trying To Feel Alive. The buildup to the last drop is so damn emotional and will hit different if you’re in the right (or wrong) mood. This is probably not the last you’ll hear from Porter either….
December 30, 2024 at 2:44 AM
9. Charli xcx - Girl, so confusing featuring lorde

The original was my favorite song on BRAT, then we got the lorde verse and it got even better. My summer kinda revolved around replaying the hell out of this song so yeah it’s getting its deserved top 10 spot
December 29, 2024 at 3:25 AM
10. Vampire Weekend - Connect

A 25-second clip will not do this song justice. Connect takes you on a journey and, in my opinion, is VW’s most sonically interesting song to date. Such a beautifully crafted song and the interpolation of the drums in Mansard Roof is a nice touch

Doing this on Bluesky as well this year!!

Tomorrow, I will begin my list for my top 10 songs of 2024 (on this thread). Before then, here’s a list of songs that did not make the cut but I did not want to leave out. (In alphabetical order by artist):
