[Panel 2] She’s leaning against her desk in her bedroom, alone, and in complete silence. [Panel 3] Akko’s voice booms from behind a door, dragging her out of her head “Diana, are you sure this is alright ?” [Panel 4] “Even if Merryl remembers, she will not say anything.”, she answers, in her best effort to seem more composed. “Hrrmmm… alright…” Akko doesn’t truly buy it, but that should be enough for her right now. [Panel 5] Alone again, Diana gulps and is drawn back to her unnerving thoughts. Title card : THE DAY BEFORE [Panel 6] The door to Daryl’s office, as Diana remembers it from yesterday. [Panel 7] Inside, the two of them are seated and discussing some important matter. “So ?” Daryl asks. “I suppose it would be in all our best interests.” Diana answers. [Panel 8] “Then it’s done.” announces the gloating aunt. “I’ll make sure to let them know as soon as possible. We will be preparing for Friday afternoon. Can I leave it to you to tell Miss Kagari ?” [Panel 9] Diana, seemingly stoic, agrees. “Of course, aunt Daryl. I’ll let her know at once.” [Panel 10] The door shuts closed. [Panel 11] Diana, finally out, rests against it, sighing all her worries out. [Panel 12] She hides her face in her hands, groaning in them, conflicted on the task she agreed to fulfill.

Akko can be heard, speaking in japanese : “もしもし?” (“moshi moshi?” [“Hello ?” while speaking in a phone]) [Panel 2] Diana’s attention got diverted from her previous interest, Akko is loud on the phone, and keeps going : “父さん, 母さん!” (“tou-san, kaa-san! [“Dad, Mom!”]) [Panel 3] From a larger perspective, we now see they were resting in the courtyard. Diana is, well, was before Akko started shouting, reading on a bench with one of her dogs next to her. Akko, is sitting in the grass, accompanied by a mutt too, and is speaking to her parents, loudly : “最近ど?うん.うん.” (“Saikin dou? Un. Un.” [“How’s it going ? Uh-uh. Uh-uh.”]) We can’t hear what her parents respond to her. [Panel 4] Diana’s gazing at Akko, smiling to her phone as she gives (what she can only assume to be) news to her parents. “はああぃ、ちよっと-” (“Ha ā ~i, chotto-” [Yeees, just a secooond-]) [Panel 5] The girl smiles, caressing softly her dog as she has lost all interest in the book she’s holding, tenderly staring at her friend, who's going to take a while with her parents-child “how’s it been” talk. “見えるよ!久々!” (“Mieru yo! Hisabisa!” [I see you ! It’s been so long !”]) [Panel 6] Akko is beaming with joy, finally being able to see and talk to her parents after yearning for their presence for the last week, she’s trying to get as much as she can of them from this phone call. [Panel 7] “Dianaって-” (“Diana tte–” [“Diana is–”]) Her parents cut her, Akko is surprised by what they answer to her. [Panel 8] “あ、もう– わかったよ...”(“Ah, mou– Wakatta yo…” [“aaah, fiiine– I got it…”] Frustrated, Akko seems to give up on some answer her parents gave her. Diana definitely heard her name with Akko’s natural accent a moment before, does it have something to do with her ? [Panel 9] Akko turns her head in her direction, this was about her indeed ! And why is she pouting, like she’s in distress but also embarrassed ? [Panel 10] She stops facing her, too self conscious to look at her while transmitting her parents’ word. “Uh, Diana? My parents want to meet you, is that alright ?” she finally asks. [Panel 11] Diana is taken aback by this, too formal, demand. She doesn’t realize she’s gripping her book, flustered as she is. She simply answers “Um– Yes, of course.”

Akko asks “So, we’re going somewhere?” “Yes, I want to take you… somewhere special.” “Ooh is it a surprise?” she excitedly replies. “Hmm, not reall–” [Panel 2] Akko cuts Diana’s answer short. “Don’t tell me! It’s exciting like this!” Akko is beaming with joy and Diana also displays a small smile, as they ride. [Panel 3] Brego raises his head and Akko seeks the approval of Diana “Although… Do you think I’m ready to take him by myself?” [Panel 4] Diana reassures her, looking in her direction with an assured expression “Of course.” [Panel 5] “Besides, he already knows where we’re going, so you don’t have to worry.” They continue trotting down the countryside path. [Panel 6] They enter the nearby woods. Despite being a simple path surrounded by trees, it seems massive compared to them. [Panel 7] We see Diana and Akko venturing further into it from above. “Wow, what is this place? It feels funny.” Diana explains “That’s magic. I wondered if you’d perceive it more, considering you can do it at home.” [Panel 8] Akko reaches her hand for the air around her and tries to process the feeling it gives her. “It’s like… steam after a hot shower, but fresher? Or when you’re completely underwater.” [Panel 9] Diana also gazes in the distance, sharing her melancholic thoughts about it. “To be honest, I wondered if this place would get affected at all by the Tree. And it seems it has…” [Panel 10] Akko stares at her in incredulity. “Why? What’s this place?” [Panel 11] Akko, having ignored the scenery, gets frightened by the sudden appearance of a witch’s face in the bark of a tree and screams. “AH!”

Please meet me in my study later, will you?” “Of course, Aunt.” [Panel 2] Diana struggles to reach for the handle, expecting nothing good from such summoning. [Panel 3] She breathes out to get herself together… [Panel 4] She finally opens the door, from which she calls. “Aunt Daryl, I’m here.” Sitting at her desk, the latter answers. “Ah, Diana. Come in and close the door. Please take a seat.” [Panel 5] Diana sits and crosses her arms with a stern look on her face. “You don’t have to look so tense, this isn’t a reprimand, it’s a conversation between adults, that’s all.” “Forgive me. It just seemed quite… unexpected.” [Panel 6] Aunt Daryl fidgets with her fingers, her hands crossed on her desk. “Yes, we never… had the need to be in these circumstances. But alas, that’s where we are at the present time.” “What do you mean?” [Panel 7] Face to face, she continues, with a soft expression. “It was a smart decision to bring Miss Kagari here for the summer. I would advise you to keep your alliance with her from now on, make sure she is close and keep it like that.” Diana still looks at her with an unamused expression. “I’m sorry?” [Panel 8] With a confident smile, she justifies her statement. “I foresee that both you and Miss Kagari will become exceptionally important to the world of magic, which is bound to have a resurgence in the next few years.” [Panel 9] “The world as we know it will change and our position in that political landscape is better than ever!”, getting on Diana’s nerves as she finishes that sentence.

[Panel 3] She gets up and knocks on Akko’s door, who answers “Come in”. [Panel 4] “Good morning, Akko. Are you ready for our tour?” she says entering the room. “Couldn’t sleep waiting for it!” Akko says from the floor where she is stretching. “Get dressed so we can go before breakfast, then.” “Right-o!” [Panel 5] The tour seems to have taken a while so they continue their conversation in the hallway. “...And the dining room is right through that door and beside it is another drawing room” she explains, as they walk down the corridor. “How many drawing rooms do you need?” “Well, when you have a few dozen people visiting they come quite in handy.” “Have you ever hosted a big party here?” [Panel 6] Akko looks at Diana “Oh, many times. Every Samhain and Yule we used to host one, but they started thinning out in recent years.” “That’s a bummer.” says Akko. “Trouble for staff and dreadfully boring people. I don’t miss them.” says Diana back. [Panel 7] “Andrew said he used to come here.” says Akko. “Who do you think I was referring to?” answers Diana and Akko gives her a nudge and laughs “Hahah! You’re so mean! He’s not so bad.” [Panel 8] She then checks her phone “Hey, how come this place has better reception than Luna Nova?” [Panel 9] “Luna Nova’s on a displaced realm, remember? Professor Croix used magic to get a signal from and out but we don’t need that here.” [Panel 10] “Oh, I see. I was checking on my parents, they already boarded the cruise.” Akko says with a pouty face. [Panel 11] Akko shakes her fist in the air “Hope it’s worth leaving your daughter behind!” [Part 12] She snaps back as she smells something “*Snif* Oh that smells amazing!” Diana answers, smiling “Harris must have made pancakes.” [Panel 13-14] Akko smiles back at her “Harris?” “The chef. He likes to experiment so if there’s a dish you’d like to try, please make sure to tell me.” “Suddenly it doesn’t sound that bad being here instead of on a cruise!”
