I think it partially originates from a continuing (and less and less grounded) idea that “if only Trump voters see this one meme/troll, they’ll realize how foolish they’ve been!” I feel like we wore this concept out before the 2024 election, but it’s really a dead horse now.

It’s Possible to be both right and damage your relationship with your company’s user base. Hamfisted, petty, bad look. There are professionals who can do this for her but she’s instead opting to make her big app look like it’s run by an unprofessional jackass.
there are people (fiduciaries) required to put an org/entity b4 their own interests/to stay above the fray to maintain at least the illusion of objectivity. Totally blowing that here. hire some real pr to run your account or stop posting. This comes across petty and untrustworthy, even if right!

to be clear i understand your point: there's a lot of risk reporting high powered people, but if we don't at least expect them to report eachother ... they definitely won't. Just giving him a freebie when he really shouldn't get one. Hold them accountable!
Is this a gotcha? Took me like 15 seconds to get two different hotlines to call, you could just call 911. If he's so uncomfortable going to "REFUSE" then he should be comfortable asking for a professional to investigate. If you think you know about a crime you don't tweet it out or write an oped...
But counterpoint: maybe we should expect people with Elon's level of clout and reach to "tell someone" about an island for sex trafficking. We get what we expect of people for their station. If this is too much for Elon, he should recede and certainly deserves to be critized for his omission.
