Oh FFS Luke Akehurst. Pretty much the polar opposite of what I think...
January 9, 2026 at 4:07 PM
She hasn't always been this odd, I think that's the answer to the headline. She's been behaving like someone who spends too long on Twitter

It might be difficult to know what events an MP is going to be at in advance these days, if they're high profile. Security reasons. I suppose you can always turn up at constituency surgeries, if it's your local MP.

I think better to challenge them in person. If there's an event nearby where I know a politician who's still on X is going to be, I'll make sure to do just that. If you comment on their posts it's just one of their assistants doing it via some app that cross-posts all over the place in any case.
January 9, 2026 at 12:31 PM
But aren't you still posting on Twitter?
January 9, 2026 at 12:26 PM
Get off Twitter

Labour member here. Really not keen on helping with canvassing etc until this happens. Whereas there are some things we don't like, such as being reasonably civil to the imbecile in the White House, that we have to do, there aren't really downsides to coming off X. Most normal people avoid it anyway

Luke Akehurst? Nuanced?
January 8, 2026 at 1:38 PM
I know things are bad in America but hundreds of dead soldiers would be difficult to cover up. And MAGA is showing signs of fracturing already.
January 7, 2026 at 7:52 PM
Yes, which is why I said once he's gone there will no doubt be an even worse cult or cults most probably funded by the likes of Peter Thiel.
January 7, 2026 at 7:50 PM
AI says AJP Taylor was a schoolboy in bed with flu at the time so it's probably apocryphal.
January 7, 2026 at 7:38 PM
What I wonder about the end of WW1 is this thing of random strangers shagging in doorways which I've only heard of in one place (AJP Taylor?). Did it really happen, or was there probably only one incident?
January 7, 2026 at 7:34 PM
Maybe the idea of the end being the peace treaty was more entrenched before WW2 which ended with the German state ceasing to exist.
January 7, 2026 at 7:30 PM
Unfortunately the only way this MAGA cult will be brought to an end is when the body bags start to be flown home. They'll have nothing to fear when he's a liability. It'll probably splinter into far worse cults though.
January 7, 2026 at 7:28 PM
Maybe we'd take you more seriously if you weren't cross-posting this to X/Twitter, which is basically an extension of MAGA?
January 7, 2026 at 2:01 PM
Politicians and journalists say they need it to communicate when the real reason is that they're addicted to being on it. There aren't any real benefits as most normal people avoid it like the plague.
January 7, 2026 at 1:28 PM
If only it were true about Hackney
January 7, 2026 at 2:52 AM
This all depends on your definition of 'war'. For most people war=fighting although the post 1918 blockade must have had quite drastic effects.
January 6, 2026 at 6:30 PM
I don't think they do the whole kamikaze thing
January 6, 2026 at 5:13 PM
OK so presumably 1-3 would be the 30 years war, 7 year war and Napoleonic wars?
January 6, 2026 at 1:54 AM
Or this whole idea of the World Wars being the European Civil Wars parts I and II.
January 6, 2026 at 1:46 AM
By that logic you might as well string together WW2 with all subsequent wars and claim it's ongoing.
January 6, 2026 at 1:04 AM
Not really a history thing but ridiculous how everyone thinks swans can break your arm. With their wings.
January 6, 2026 at 12:07 AM
The fighting ended in 1918. You might as well say the Korean War is ongoing.
