Interested in painting, philosophy, consciousness and the natural world.
There are just different levels of description with imprecise mappings to each other, but which can be useful because they are predictively powerful in their domain of applicability.

Left of centre and green parties need to join up and show the sort of clear strong leadership that comes naturally to the extreme right.

The problem I see in a democracy is that most people will not vote to be worse off than others in the short term, how ever rational that would be in the long term. I consider the global shift to right wing, self-interested fascism to be an inevitable consequence of human nature, sadly.

Vision for Wales: 1. New green capital in mid Wales with excellent transport links. 2. Reinvigorate industry in South Wales by importing the world's waste and doing high tech recycling 3. Total commitment to water supplies and green energy, sold to England at a profit. 4 Rejoin the EU.

Seems tricky ground to me because truth is always a somewhat subjective summary of what actually happened

Different levels of description are useful, and can have more predictive power than physics.

There should always be further leaders in waiting

Trump is just a symptom of end stage capitalism hitting its limits.

Entropy increases. Life is an entropy pump that reduces entropy (builds structure) in a small volume at the expense of increasing entropy more outside that volume. We could reduce this in scale, but can't escape these fundamentals.

and maybe conscious thought is about maintaining a coordinated and coherent single hierarchical control structure.

They might base everything on this strange quantity called 'money', on which physics is silent.

Thinking about from the direction of survival of the species, isn't any learnt pain and pleasure that is not about the fundamentals of hunger, thirst, breathing, injury, illness or reproduction, just rather arbitrary and abstract? How do you arbitrate which are the worthy goals?

We should look to Europe, Canada and Australia

Those landscapes already heavily degraded by sheep grazing, its just we have normalised that.

If you sit with someone as they die, you realise that after death, all the same physical material remains. What ends is the collaborative process that keeps the whole intact and functioning.

Thanks for the link, interesting one

My take is that consciousness exists as a high level description of what is going on that only has an approximate and uncertain mapping to the underlying material detail. That approximation creates the space for high level phenomena and relationships with no exact material counterpart.

Doesn't stop a winning number of voters choosing Reform, sadly.

I bought that book cheap second hand and found Oliver Sacks had signed it, which was a fun

How strange that people can look at the mess in the US and think "yes, I want a Poundland version of that"

The over reliance on funding from foreign students has very obviously been a bubble waiting to burst for years.

If we can also emigrate UK citizens who don't meet those criteria, great!

I learnt on that at home. Gave me a good career in IT at the right time with zero formal education about software.
