My first post. Wednesday Morning's great Saturn occultation by the Moon.
peterlewis55.bsky.social
Well, you must have earned that luck. I need to set up my planetary camera. Haven't done any since last year.

I see all the moaners have jumped in on this post.

Here it is tonight at its actual closest. Not that it looks any different! bsky.app/profile/pete...

The Harvest Moon is now at its closest to Earth. Barely 224,000 miles away. Truly a 'Supermoon'! #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social
The Moon is waning at 99.1% full and at its biggest and brightest as it appears to Earth.

It's 2,000 miles closer tonight. Not that you'll notice the difference!

It's in my great grandchildren's diary!

'Supermoon' - The Harvest/Hunter Moon part 2! Now waning at 99.3% and fighting the clouds and aeroplane exhaust. #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social

Haha, a long way to the sheep here!
peterlewis55.bsky.social
Indeed. As always, never trust the weather! This is what I took around 4am. By then I could see the clouds arriving.
peterlewis55.bsky.social
Wanna bet on the answer to that? 🙂

Sorry, that is incorrect. The Harvest Moon is the name given to the full Moon that rises closest to the autumn equinox.

The equinox this year was on 22 September. Usually the Harvest Moon occurs in the same month but this year it's on 7th October, the latest since 1987 so it's shared with Hunter.

Superb. Love that bridge!
peterlewis55.bsky.social
I was also awake at that time shooting the Moon from home. It did quickly cloud over so I went back to bed!
peterlewis55.bsky.social
You did well. My sky was far too bright at 4am so I didn't bother going comet hunting this time.
peterlewis55.bsky.social
Yay! Been waiting for the moment. Bed awaits!

The Hunter (and Harvest) Moon just now. Exactly 100% full and as close as it gets to Earth (226k miles away). It really is a Supermoon! #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social
The Moon. Lightly mineralised. Perigee. Super!
peterlewis55.bsky.social
Clouds or not, got to be the worst night for astrophotography when there's a perigee full moon! Good luck finding a comet with the sky so bright!
peterlewis55.bsky.social
It's the interlull. Lots of other diversions!
peterlewis55.bsky.social
Indeed. The clear sky is a bonus!

'Supermoon' - the first of 3 this year. This evening's fantastic rising full Harvest Moon! Actually 100% about 04.45 tomorrow morning. Also rising into the 'Belt of Venus' #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social
The Harvest or Hunter Supermoon. Currently just 362k miles from Earth. It is properly called a Perigee Moon. Moon rising over the east of south London The Moon rose about 18.00 BST today. The full Moon rising through the Belt of Venus which is an atmospheric phenomenon that appears as a pinkish or brownish glow in the sky right after sunset or just before sunrise. The glow is visible above the dark blue band of Earth's shadow, which rises on the horizon opposite the sun. The phenomenon is also known as the anti-twilight arch.
