Tom let Richard know where he was going and followed Alan.
“We won't go up to the first battery, we'd just be in the way. But here's the second battery, ready to be brought up. Those at the end are the newest ones and they're the best. There's a company in London that does good precision casting. You can actually see the difference. They go straight, further and have a longer life. What? What's the matter?”
“Oh, nothing,” said Tom. “I knew someone of that name. I was just wondering if they fwere related”
They watched for a while. There were thudding sounds, each followed by an echo and the appearance of a small mark on the walls of Ypres. A second or so later there was a crack.
“See, they seem to do damage. But that’s not really structural.”

2. In this sub-plot, a man and a woman who traffic women and children, became too rich and well connected to prosecute. The man dies in a car accident, deemed a suicide, just as the law is closing in.

People will think I based the story on them, but I didn't know the story at the time.

"A real bite. A hard bite," said Bunter in an fanimated voice. "The flesh was actually hanging off and the blood just … pouring out. He was so angry and there you were, blood dripping out of your mouth like Dracula."
Nabil did not respond.
"For a moment there was real fight in your eyes, Nick. But you had fired your one and only shot. Brady tried to find something to bind the arm and stop the blood. A real fucking mess, Nick. You can't go to the hospital with a child size bite in your your arm. There were people. But not cheap and not good."

It would have been so easy for the press to hold him to account for this. At one point he was saying that the authors of Project 2025 were far-right and that he wanted to have nothing to do with them. They could easily have contrasted this with Trump's other statements about the Heritage Foundation.
