@peterruddick.bsky.social
Business Reporter & Presenter for BBC News.

Lover of theatre, #SaintsFC, coffee, #Eurovision and pizza.
After many aborted attempts, I finally started something a year ago today. A fitness journey of sorts.

I lost a fair bit of weight and am now slowly, sustainably building some muscle for the first time in my life 🤣

Feeling stronger, healthier and more alert. Plus, having fun!

When you try, and fail, to combine your BBC Breakfast business duties with a spot of trick-or-treating.

My bucket, still, does not runneth over.

Today is National Coming Out Day.

This year, I shared my story with the BBC Pride staff network for an article for the internal paper Ariel.

I thought I'd post it here too.

It's a very common story really.

If you're heading to the EU from this Sunday, you might want to have a watch of this from BBC Breakfast today.

Changes are coming!

And yes, they might be the beginning of the end for a stamp in your Passport when you travel to some countries.

Dame Patricia Routledge.

There will never be another like her.

This was a beautiful moment of symmetry.

I first saw @ollyalexander.music-social.com with Years and Years at Glasto in 2015. It was the same day as London Pride and Olly made a beautiful speech.

Then, I got to see them more than a decade later at Manchester Pride. Very special.

Happy Birthday Mum!

I hope wherever you are you're having a blast, dancing away, enjoying some cake, maybe having a tipple.

Missing you today, as always.

Keys.

From living in temporary homeless accommodation, after my late Mum had her dream home repossessed when I was a kid, to flat owner.

Can't quite believe it.

Couldn't have done this without my amazing husband. And the bank, of course.

What did we do for our first anniversary? We went back to the theatre we got married in. We walked the same way. Except this time we came back with a bit of the theatre. Some lovely seats!

War of the worries.

I have a feeling it WON'T catch on, but it's how I'm describing today's interest rates decision.

Why?

Which worry is the Bank of England most worried about? Which worry is worse?

Inflation or the economy?

Thanks to the Roving Canal Traders Association for being impeccable hosts today.

And to Steve Lammiman for the 🎥, Marta Newman for the production.

Some really interesting points made about the revival of our canals, but also the climate challenges and funding issues facing Canal & River Trust.
July 25, 2025 at 1:35 PM
From coal and cotton to bars and bakeries!

I'm off to Market Drayton tomorrow to find out for BBC Breakfast how our canals are once again helping to keep our economy afloat.

Except it's leisure now, not industry.

But could a few challenges barge in to spoil the party?

The story of Mum's glass...
July 18, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Back in Salford on BBC Breakfast this morning after the #HMAwards25.

Didn't win but I would have been mortified if @felicityhannah.bsky.social hadn't!

What a pleasure to be shortlisted and to be in a room full of people trying to improve financial education.

Plus I came home to this...!
July 18, 2025 at 9:11 AM
Tomorrow on BBC Breakfast...

...I'm talking about one of the fastest growing sporting industries in the country. It helps create so many careers.

And sorry Sunderland...it isn't football!

Also generated this fun moment with Naga and Ben...

Heading to the tip this weekend? Have you booked a slot?!

The team on BBC Breakfast have found more councils are asking people to reserve their visit in advance.

Some appear to be tracking or limiting visits too.

Good news for traffic or bad news for fly-tipping?

What a privilege to step into the Stonehenge stone circle at the weekend for the summer solstice. Extraordinary experience.

Solstice first light.

Nearly four months since we lost Mum. Think about her every day.

Her cousin sent me this today.

A Christmas thank you letter Mum wrote in January 1994! It's like Mum is back with us.

Her powers of prediction were poor though. I'm still not a civil servant...!

TARIFF WHIPLASH!

The boss of UK Steel called the last few days a rollercoaster for the industry.

I thought I would have a go at telling Naga about the MAD timeline that businesses have had to deal with...

...deep breath needed!

The answer was wine!

When you think about the Yorkshire coast, what first comes to mind?

I'm talking products/exports.

I bet your initial thought isn't what I'm discussing on BBC Breakfast tomorrow...
