Just stumbled on this brutal gutpunch of a video:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSq6...

I've trained The Algorithm to show me stuff like this— randos working on projects and showing them to you? I've never seen this channel but I've seen a dozen like it. Dude fixes radios. The video is not about radios.

What a great post clearly showing the value of middle management! My favourite quote from the book it’s based on is a powerful analogy:

“Good management is the lifeblood of the healthy corporate body. Getting rid of it to save cost is like losing weight by giving blood.”
Katie Leonard (one of our eng managers) recently wrote a 🔥killer🔥 piece on the current obsession with cutting middle management in the name of "efficiency".

"Efficiency is not the same as effectiveness. An org running at 100% capacity is brittle, not agile."

Cutting Middle Management Is Costing Your Capacity for Change
Over the last year, the tech industry has seen a wave of layoffs targeting middle management. Executives at companies like Meta, Shopify, and Amazon have framed this as a push toward efficiency.

These are amazing!
I am incredibly grateful to have friends like this. 💕 Thanks again, Liz & Corey.

And I shudder to think back to those days now, and where I might be if I hadn't figured that out when I did.

(Including a few more of my personal household tips for your entertainment. 🥰)

Ouch, this is going to wreak havoc amongst some of the smaller e-signature products.
That Google Docs quietly shipped this (e-signature) - with no extra charge for Workspace users - is a pretty big deal.

Sure, it will not be as extensive as some more advanced e-signing solutions. But it further commoditizes this space - and is sufficient for small businesses.

PSA: If you run a Ghost blog, turn on spam protection for signups as soon as possible. Details here: ghost.org/changelog/si... There's an ongoing spam attack with email-to-sms domains, see my Mailgun dashboard, and how after 2 weeks of regular deliveries the traffic (and my usage invoice) shoots up.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

What a smug spit on the graves of the heroes who died 80th years before the day this was issued, fighting to liberate the Auschwitz concentration camps.

It’s crazy what’s going on in the Garmin sportwatch world: they updated an essential file that gets downloaded to devices at every sync (not sw update, just a simple activity or similar sync!) and throws the device into a reboot loop, rendering it unusable. 🧵

Based on what I saw, I love Linear. However, if you want your teams to go faster, make sure you understand first what’s holding them back now. There’s a good chance it’s not (just) the tool they use. And they probably know it already, and would tell happily if someone asked them.

Seeing all the political news coming from the US today (wrt the attack on trans & nonbinary people), my mind flashed to the image of one of the promotional posters for Princess Mononoke that I saw as a child back in 1997 with the copy 「生きろ。」 ("Live."). (The copy is written as an imperative.)
