Completed Factorio space age DLC blind (no guides/tutorials/blueprints) in just under 100 hours! The game has come a long way from when the win objective was just the "rocket defense" item.

The platform made heavy use of the new set recipe of the circuit network to dynamically change recipes

Seriously burnt out right now even though the sem is over, literally nothing i'm doing to unwind is making me happy/satisfied. Still stuck in the mindset of making pcbs when I really don't feel like it.
Here's a thing using the esp32-p4, apparently it has a h264 encoder.

$3/unit DB-25 RS-232 to USB converter from junk perfboard implementation to my first purple PCB since like 2021.
2 layer designs seem to have the advantage of being able to get eco PCBA with all colors (except yellow) without eng fee

I got plotting working on the oscilloscope over RS-232 to my PC :3
I'm using hp2xx to rasterize the HP-GL file

Some of the books I got :D

Free books from an EECE prof's office clear out. Took home some nice dsp, fiber comms and os books

Worst thing I built all year

Second laser analog frontend PCB soldered.

What's the deal with most low cost laser diodes not specifying their maximum frequency in their datasheets and not giving spice models?

Also had to replace the modulation pot with a 1kR since the 10kR did not supply enough current at high frequency.

A pic of the 50 MHz custom laser driver/receiver frontend from earlier in construction. Really terrible solder paste application but I don't use stencils.
October 4, 2025 at 6:42 PM
Just did an end to end test of our laser driver (built without any commercial driver ICs) and receiver, good to 50 MHz which is good enough.

Since when did stm32 have data matrices on their package markings?

Also made a cute dev board for LCC-18 (U-blox MAX/ATGM336) and LCC-24 (U-blox NEO/ATGM336) GNSS receiver modules (one board which can take either module type!) :3 The layout is a mess and definitely not ideal but I had to minimize space since I want to put a few in a payload bay.

Going to make a laser turret from a meeting room camera :3 eventually
Either way it's a free 2 axis

TIL old server UPS are a good way to get high quality high power transformers for free (from uni ewaste bins). Unlike microwave oven transformers which don't alternate the E and I pieces to save cost.

Radar arrived

Moved the Fluke 45 into her new home :3 no more multimeters beeping at me because I left them on

Tektronix calibration sticker on my fluke 45 multimeter!

What's stopping me from using a human presence 24 GHz FMCW radar for sensing water level? I haven't seen anyone try it. I see the ones actually meant for level sensing are very wide bandwidth (4 GHz compared to 0.25 GHz) and have a more directed beam.

Bought a Fluke 45 instead lol

an eternity ago I used to do source mapping. of course, 90% of the stuff I made was never released or finished :(
it was going to be a campaign of maps but I was too much of a perfectionist and never got it finished

Flashing custom firmware on my T12-955 soldering iron!! The swd pinout is [3V3 SWCLK SWDIO GND].

The inside of an stlink v2!!

Was reading an unknown PCB with unknown swd pin out and got vref wrong which led me to think my stlink was broken.

Blew up this IP2365 module thanks to my past self marking gnd and vchg wrong on the silkscreen... I guess a boring tp4056 will have to do. Took way too long to debug this bug too

The drill battery soldering iron jank works !!!

Raspberry pi power hat I made with safe shutdown. Had to use 18650s for competition since lipos were banned
