Apparently EU Commission just announced some AI in Science Strategy, partly aiming to bring US researchers in Europe.
And, I mean, just keeping European researchers in would be great.

Do you have any way to see if this is a one-off error? Are other copies like this? Because I agree with @ellenforget.bsky.social, I don't know how this passed the proof stage.

Interdisciplinarity is fun because it’s something job ads in humanities HE say they want but it often feels like it actively disqualifies you (in the sense of having degrees in, and published in leading journals of, multiple distinct disciplines). Everyone believes you’re not in their discipline.

Hey experienced software dev folks: do you use any low-code/no-code tools for your job, hobbies, or work? Either for polished products or rough in-house tools?

Ha! Maybe that was in my subconscious (The Bear is a great show). My initial mental image was remembering the morning rush at Starbucks when sometimes, just sometimes, everything simply flowed.

Closest I can picture is managing people in food-service industries: you stop for a moment and look at your kitchen and everything is being executed not only exactly how you told your staff to do it, but how you yourself would do it and how you imagine it being done in your mind's eye.

You, my good sir, are brilliant. I applaud you 👏👏👏

This was a moving read. Glad it's finally "home" for you.

This was a really good piece, Zeb. Thanks for sharing it with us. Alaska is a mighty long way from Germany, but I'd love to Wrangell-St. Elias one day.

We'll see! Trying to put together a little proposal for next year's theme...

Yes, I ended up looking at their website, and they're worlds away from the Salvation Army (for whom I have the utmost respect!). I don't live in the UK, but this does seem jarringly dissonant from the experiences I've had there.
petertevans.bsky.social
Is this like the contemporary, hyper-radicalized version of the Salvation Army or something? 😰

Warst du heute in Göttingen?

Indeed, I think this is the case. I immediately see the theological relevance, as well as the mirror being held up (and I'm not sure I like what I see). I've been an SST member for decade now; maybe this will be my first conference to attend. Sounds like it will be excellent.

What a theme! I can't decide if I love it, or if I'm depressed by it.
