The column of Marcian dates to the mid 5th Century AD and stood on one of the major routes into Constantinople but was surrounded by buildings and lost from public view until a fire in 1908 opened up the area revealed it again #Istanbul #archaeology #türkiye

The steps leading into the strong room under the headquarters building in the west compound at #Corbridge Roman town. The room would have held the soldiers pay and savings. A building inscription of the 6th legion dated AD192-202 was found inside during excavation. #RIB1163
