I don’t write long-form stuff much anymore, but today is an exception. If you know me, you know exactly why that is.

The original PlayStation and I have a lot of history. More than 30 years of history. And it’s worth writing about my related experiences & feelings on its American birthday.
Happy 30th, PlayStation!
It was 30 years ago today, September 9th, after weeks of paying down my preorder and waiting impatiently for the "next generation" to arrive that I picked up my PlayStation console from Electronics Bo...

Nobody is entitled to your social media space, and it really doesn’t matter how mad others get if they’re removed/not allowed in.

Block liberally. Make your experience the way you want it to be. Their metrics are not and never will be your problem.
mondaiji98.bsky.social
just a double reminder that you should block/mute whoever you want because its your online space and nobody should be mad that you curate your space to what you like.
ellexmay.bsky.social
Just a reminder, clearsky may be handy, but its *toxic* no one should be able to see who you choose to block. It causes drama and unnecessary hate.

Yes, in many cases, preowned games work just the same as brand new ones. And every so often, you will find preowned games that look practically untouched.

It’s obviously much less expensive to buy preowned, too, and a large majority of my library falls into that category.

But new is… different.

Opening a sealed game from the past is awesome. Freeing a cartridge or disc from years of imprisonment is satisfying, and knowing that you are the first person to play that copy is a neat feeling.

Observing the game’s pristine condition— no scratches, scuffs, or marks— adds to the joy.

“Sealeds” of approval. 🦭🦭

I still blame the rise of unmoderated social media in the 2010s. When you don’t tell people “no”, then anything goes. Add the alteration of social media algorithms to reward anger, and you’ve got a society full of insufferable jerks who no longer recognize the line between internet & reality.

I’d say that “the gamers are big mad”, but that’s a 24/7/365 thing.

They’re *always* mad at something, and that’s not the way it used to be. It’s the group I always wanted more people to be a part of when I was growing up, and now you couldn’t pay me enough money to consider myself to be a part of.

Another 🦭🦭sealed🦭🦭 game. Hard to believe it’s 28 years old.

3Xtreme went off the rails, but I really enjoyed ESPN Extreme Games and this, its non-ESPN sequel.

A little bit racing, a little bit tricking, and a little bit of beating. That’s 2Xtreme… and this is ready to be released from its plastic.

I was just watching the AVGN Superman NES review and James mentioned his MySpace page.

Right in the feels.

No social media platform is safe without strong/severe moderation— though, even if a new platform came about and tried to do it the right way, banned users would freak out and bitch about completely irrelevant “freedom of speech”— which should not at all matter on a non-government website.
peteskerritt.com
With a lot of extra effort to curate your feed, thanks to liberal use of the Block function, this platform can still be fine at times— but it does appear that any goodwill the platform had built has quickly vanished.

And that’s the big three. Gotta pick or turn off the lights. There won’t be more.

I haven’t gone back to X (too expensive). Threads is still shitshow, but there’s occasionally some good stuff (in video gaming) that I like. Biggest problem there is a lot of post theft and reposting as unique. Meta never could put a stop to that.
peteskerritt.com
I’ve said it plenty, and nothing has changed my mind. ALL of the social media platforms blow, with each having its set of awful crap that make them so shitty.

Your choices are limited. You either find the least awful one to you, or just pull the social media plug. That’s kind of it.

I’m not sure what I missed today that’s activated talk of an exodus from BlueSky, but worth noting again:

I recommend getting yourself a blog/website. There aren’t going to be any platforms left to migrate to, so if you want to post stuff, a website will still fill the bill. Engagement is no lock.

I don’t remember the last time I saw the Baltimore Ravens as a home dog by more than a touchdown.

But here comes Old Man Stafford and that impressive Rams offense— another huge challenge the much-maligned and very beat up Ravens defense.

Yeesh.

By the time heavy use of the internet came to be, most who commented negatively on it after playing it simply weren’t the target audience— their perspectives were skewed as players who had experience with JRPGs (like FFVII), so a “training wheels” game was “bad” to them.
peteskerritt.com
Until the day I’m dead and gone, I will always believe that Mystic Quest did its job to perfection. It served as an accessible, simple introductory JRPG for players who really didn’t have experience with the genre at the time.

Of course the internet hates it. It wasn’t for the complainers.
rpgfan.bsky.social
It has been 33 years today since Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was first released. This oft maligned spinoff featured simplified RPG mechanics, enjoyable characters, and basic exploration and platforming mechanics that made for a unique experience.

…and the 1972 Dolphins can pop the cork early, for there will not be an undefeated team in the NFL this campaign.

It sure is peaceful getting up in the morning to drive to work, complete my work day, drive home, and see that I have 4 hours left of my day before I collapse into bed and do it all again. That’s time to split between personal hygiene, meal prep and eating, clean-up, and maybe an hour of leisure.

Not yet, no. Nintendo has had a relatively stable history in this regard (in Japan, anyway)— but as times get tougher worldwide and the economy tanks, this current regime doesn’t seem like the type that *wouldn’t* cut jobs for AI if it could feed the bottom line.

Just finished Espgaluda II. What a ride that was.

I’m certainly not skilled at “bullet hell” STGs. One thing that holds me back is watching enemies instead of bullets. If I steer my ship through the bullets, my shots eventually hit their target.

I’m definitely a “less bullets” guy.

1) No corporation really cares what consumers think, including the ones you cape for. They only pretend to temporarily if the money spigot slows a little bit.

2) Nintendo probably caves to generative AI like every other big video game company.
