"not a consequential decision".

Isn't that a polysyllabic way of saying "we thought no one was looking. We figured we'd get away with it"?

It can't mean not consequential in the sense of not changing anything. Because the claim is it paid for a course. Not inconsequential.

Surely it can't be necessary. If it were, it would be a functional, purposeful comma. Which all styles accept.

Enjoy it by all means. But if it's essential it ain't Oxford.

Excellent piece, very clear and helpful. Thank you for making it freely available.

There's a typo towards the end that readers might stumble over. I think is should be if:

"The calculus changes, though, is the person..."

Elected as a member of parliament, for sure.

Not appointed as a government minister. Whose ethical behaviour the ministerial code applies to.

Rayner resigned from her ministererial role. Not as an MP. (Indicating that it's ok to underpay tax and continue as an MP. Which Polanski well knows.)

Do you really think Farage is a minister?

Are criminal proceedings active?

Come to Leicester. We have tables and chairs. Much more comfortable.

Thanks. It was your link to your wordpress site that wasn't working. I found the post fine going direct to your site.

Very good. But are you sure that link works? Didn't for me.

I'm realising this.

I don't think "we've been hoaxed" is a thing for a serious newspaper.

I've no idea, but my instinct is that the freelance might be the aggrieved party.
