This is better from the Courier. Helping to tackle misinformation and defuse tensions. One of the most common lies peddled by those trying to divide our communities over asylum is this rubbish about criminality. The police in Perthshire confirm - there is absolutely no evidence.

The Courier wrote an awful headline and article about asylum seekers in Perth this week and today they published an editorial about me denying a right to reply. Here's one anyway. This is a fragile situation. Words matter.

Why words matter in the local asylum debate - Pete Wishart
‘Fear of disorder behind asylum secrecy’ screamed The Courier’s front page on Monday morning.  Inside, the article suggested that Perth and Kinross Council had deliberately…

How long before Labour backdown on this 'Reform is racist' stuff? I give it until the close of play tomorrow. Then it will be back to the familiar territory of accommodating and copying them again.

Awful headline on the front page of the Courier. They are inflaming community tensions by trying to suggest that criminal activity by asylum seekers is being 'withheld'. P&K Council are simply following Home Office protocols and the police tell us no incidents have been reported

I think people listening to Starmer this morning will only hear this grating political white noise. Already he looks like a leader who has nowhere to go and no real idea how to turn things round. Imagine if he actually believed in something.... #bbclaurak

'Yeah, that might work'. Said absolutely no one who understands the relationship between the branch office and the mother ship. They're in this together and Anas will always do what is required.

When politics is in crisis and everything seems too hard to resolve people turn to the populists and the scapegoats. The UK is heading for a bleak destination but in Scotland we can still determine a future of our own. My Perthshire Advertiser column.

The last Labour Government tried to introduce them as part of their weird assault on civil liberties under Blair. We opposed them then. We will oppose them now. Funny what you reach to when your situation becomes desperate...

BREAKING: The Scottish Government has confirmed it opposes Labour's plans to introduce compulsory Digital ID

Why don't you work with us you unionist/brit party, you.....
petewishart.bsky.social
Not questioning it in the least. We've described the union as 'incorporating' for a number of decades. It is on the issue of Scotland being given colony status by the UN (or whether the Scottish public would go along with it) is where the bigger, more trickier, issue emerges.

Why don't we take away your job and if you don't take the first job offered we deport you?

Let's see if you're willing to work.

He's as bad at economics as he is at deporting your friends and neighbours....

There's a real sense that Farage has grossly overreached with that nasty, intimidating press conference. He'll be coming for members of our community, friends, colleagues, people who are settled here, and when it gets personal he will lose. This might be our best chance to halt his progress yet.
petewishart.bsky.social
Hi Scotland. That will be the people who keep our NHS together. The people who staff our hospitality and tourism businesses. The people who stop our economy from tanking. This is what Labour's pandering to Farage does.

Sorry, my friend. Your posts are getting just a bit obsessive. I'm going to put you on mute for a while.

Sometimes this place is just as bad as Musk's Xitter. It's the whole 'in it for himself', 'he must be a traitor to the cause' rubbish all over again. I really hoped it would be different here.... Alas.

I'm elected to represent the people of Perth and Kinross and most of them would simply laugh at you if suggested to them that they were colonised. We will never convince people of the case for Indy if we don't start from where people are at.
petewishart.bsky.social
Prof Robertson work is useful and instructive. The guy on your video is just simply awful. You'd be best keeping him well away from ordinary people if you want to progress this colony stuff.
petewishart.bsky.social
That one is a little bit less 'compelling'. We will never be a colony because of the BBC. You'd be better sticking with Robert Black.
petewishart.bsky.social
Seen it before and it's a fantastic historical perspective into what Prof Black describes as the effective incorporation of Scotland into an ongoing English state. After 300 years of union whether it is relevant to contemporary considerations of a 'colony' is another matter. Powerful stuff though.

I congratulate them on bringing forward this proposal especially the work around the incorporation of Sco into the union. But if you bring forward a proposal you have to expect not everyone will agree and that it will be critically analysed & challenged. I'm sure Liberation would expect nothing less

I came on here to get away from the childish insults. Let's try and make it a place where we can have grown up exchanges. I'm simply not prepared to put up with it on here.
