For reasons beyond my understanding, #Weebly deleted the site about #books and #Venice I had been working on for over a year. Their “support” team is unresponsive. I’m a little crushed. #ReadingVenice

But wait there’s more! The boats have no keels because the lagoon is very shallow (less than 2 meters deep in many places). And the mast is typically removed after every outing, and stored with the sails…

They’re traditional all-wood boats powered by sails or oars (or engines). The one I sailed on Saturday (see picture) was smaller. The sails are trapeze shaped and only attached to the mast at the top, not the bottom.

It’s so peaceful out there! Actually my instructor had an electric engine (to get out of the marina) so it’s quiet even when he’s using the engine…
