Retired companion animal behaviourist and wannabe gardener. Worked mostly with dogs but secretly a cat person 🤫.
Sleep is really important for our seniors. So offer lots of quiet, safe, draught free comfy beds around the home. And strategically place cushions in places they jump from. Pootle rather than stride on your walks and add some foraging opportunities using a few extra healthy snacks to add delight.

Dogs aren’t naughty or bad they are just being dogs. 🐶 Cats on the other hand are control freaks and you simply have to suck it up🐱 x . And humans? Well we can be all those things and more but mostly we are lovely ☺️. Stay lovely 😻.

Offer your pets choice 😻 as this brings joy. Simple things like which treat do you want, leaving a door open and asking which route do you want to take on a walk. And a really important choice, “do you want to be petted/picked up?” You know your pet. An animal who joys fuss will ask for more.

Following the chaos in the US 🙀. As an animal behaviourist he does seem to be a terrible attention seeker. His rewards being “headlines” and praise. He needs different rewards ie golf, Adonis and business man of the week awards and extra burgers 🍔. Steer him away from the serious stuff. Sad times. 🌹

Cats are control freaks. I will just leave that there. 😼

Pet behavioural tips. Use some of your dogs daily food and hide it around the home and garden. They will spend quality time and energy searching for it using their amazing noses. This is natural and fun and who doesn’t love a game of hide and seek. 🐶

A little used instruction taught to dogs is “all done”. Just look and say all done’ in an “all done” tone of voice whilst crossing your hands in front of you and wander off. When you want to switch them back on just call them back using a fun ‘come on them’ tone of voice. 🐶. You’re welcome x

So I have already left Twitter and have now binned Amazon UK. I also use Ecosia as my search engine. Mind you it took this retired dinosaur ages to work out how to make Ecosia my default in Safari. Very tricksy is Google. So every little helps, baby steps and rise like 🦁’s and all that jazz 🤗.

Walking the dog and stroking your cat (no not a euphemism 🐶) is a great way to cope with the madness surrounding us. And breathe x.

3) So have a look at where the qualified clinical animal behaviourists (CCAB, CAB) went to study and check out which course suits you best.

Also check out which companion animal behavioural organisation they are with.

“Assume nothing, question everything.” 😉

2) If you want to be a vet; a doctor or a human psychologist you wouldn’t choose a course because the person(s) running it has a lot of followers on social media; has appeared on the telly box; has a brand (dog breed, hunting jacket, magic lead) and says all other courses are a bit rubbish.

1) To those who wish to make clinical companion animal behaviour their life’s work then choose your courses wisely.

Now I have retired I can give away free advice as my work as a clinical companion animal behaviourist is no more. Number one: do not believe twats in cravats, jumpsuits or anyone prancing about with a Malinois on the telly box or tictok. Just ask your vet to refer you to someone properly qualified.
