Lydia “Massive Prideful Female”
@petticoatshrink.bsky.social
Social worker, trauma therapist, mom, musician, nerdy Jew. Consummate pinko cuz I’m too commie for the libs and too lib for the commies. Married to @joelhs.bsky.social. Gotta remember to post about medieval food history and fun stuff to preserve sanity.
Thinking about that formative experience now, there is pain all around my heart. But it’s something worth fighting for.

I mean, if it’s Joel Salatin, he’s already pretty reactionary even as described in the book. Pollan just seems to hand wave it because he thinks it’s quaint or whatever.

I don’t expect that kind of thing to disappear completely but I hope it will take up less oxygen.

And now I still find myself being like “Grrrr those tankards shouldn’t be made out of transparent glass!” from all stuff I picked up over the years lol.

My dad’s grumpy TV/film critiques were extra niche. He’s an art conservator and wood/metal worker with a specialization in historical artifacts so I always heard a lot of grumpy commentary on how the material culture in period pieces was wrong/that’s not how black smithing works etc.

That show is a major offender when it comes to American Jewish linguistic anachronism specifically. Like, nobody in New York pronounced Hebrew that way in the 50s, come on. (I mean, it gets a lot about period Jewish stuff wrong in general…)

Anachronistic language in historical fiction is a big one for me. I was distracted as fuck watching Death By Lightning because of that.

Some people would be into that.

I mean, there’s hentai about octopi *without* human halves so yeah…

Not my type but it is kind of weird to me how sexualized he is for a Disney protagonist’s dad lol.
November 30, 2025 at 3:16 PM
I mean…she’s a cartoon though? Anyway, my guess is that anyone who finds Ariel sexy probably experienced her as part of a preadolescent sexual awakening. That seems to be how it usually goes with Disney characters and horniness.

I really don’t know why this interpretation doesn’t occur to more people!

How so?

Most people believe that Freud was right about a whole lot but don’t know they do because they don’t realize that a lot of ideas they take for granted are his.

Like 80-90% anyway.
November 29, 2025 at 8:37 PM
He was originally right about that too and then couldn’t handle the implications of being right so he decided to be wrong instead. It’s the great tragedy of Freud.

Awwww this is one of my favorite dog positions. ❤️

Elon Musk kind of feels like he was written by Michael Crichton tbh.
November 26, 2025 at 11:42 PM
I don’t even remember Sattler doing anything at all in the book except musing internally about interesting Plant Facts that Crichton had just read and wanted to put in the book some how. (All of his books have, like, 5 characters who only do stuff like this.)

Oh, absolutely. And he’s be a vaccine “skeptic.”
November 26, 2025 at 6:22 PM
Every time a Dem gets popular, it’s because they do exactly that. And yet the party as a whole can just not put two and two together…
November 25, 2025 at 3:44 PM
Yeah I’m going to take a wild guess that he’s not the type to have ever read Patrick O’Brien or C.S. Forester
November 25, 2025 at 3:36 PM
Probably not but then he also might not care. He might be the type of Army shithead who does not respect the Navy anyway. (Not disparaging all army vets, this just seems to be a type).
