I just saw NYPL's “Century of The New Yorker” exhibit, which tracks some of the close & cantankerous relationships between publishers, editors, writers & artists in the early days. Yes, there are penciled “Xs” & the word “KILLED” written across a typed Anne Sexton poem, but it’s not reductive.
