The relentless @djbyrnes1.bsky.social has spent day after day in court this week tracking what's happening with suits against DHS filed (disclaimer: we're plaintiffs in one of them), as well as protesters facing charges.

Get up to speed now:
Trump’s ‘Midway Blitz’ hits the courts in Chicago • The TRiiBE
The legal impacts of the Trump administration’s mass deportation efforts landed hard in Chicago’s federal courthouse this week, with more developments expected in the coming days.

This is some bullshit right here, brought to you by the Village of Broadview and the State of Illinois. It’s time for a lawsuit.

A very silly situation. Cops pushing protesters and press out of the free speech zone. Apparently standing at the corner of Beach and Lexington is still fine, though.

NEW — Rod Johnson will never forget federal agents zip-tying his hands behind his back.

The night of the South Shore raid in Chicago, Johnson said he was detained for two hours.

“I’m an American citizen with no warrants,” Johnson said.

ICE is not only chasing down every random brown person in Chicago, they have a cameraman following them to film this for social media. Cruelty and inhumanity as content.

"Invoking the Insurrection Act would not, however, be a flip switch moving us from a functional democracy into fascism; rather,it would be an expansion of already existent fascist action . It’s tempting to urge protesters to avoid giving Trump a pretext for escalation. That would be a grave mistake."

Just in case someone missed this detail:
Wells Fargo used the ICE orks to clear out a building of lawful residents to make a buck

Again, a military terror purge was carried out with naked children in handcuffs for the benefit of Wells Fargo execs

A corrupt corp that will bleat at any reciprocity

This is from a video on X, showing inside the Broadview ICE facility when Noem was in town on Fri.

For context, she's in the central room with 15 workstations setup to process detained individuals, whether they were arrested by immigration enforcement or at protests.

See the orange triangles?
Kristi Noem inside the ICE facility at 1930 Beach St. in Broadview, IL. She is standing near a white man, smiling at a desk with a computer monitor and printer. Behind her is a cell door with a man looking out a narrow slit window. Next to him, three or four other men are seen through a larger window in the cell.

Behind the white man are two upside down "demo bags" taped up over the windows to another cell.

At tonight’s Broadview Village Board meeting, trustees just passed a resolution to recognize Hispanic heritage month. Earlier today, Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson signed an executive order limiting protests of ICE to the hours of 9am-6pm daily.

@unraveledpress.com & other press have been threatened, shot with less-lethals and arrested while reporting on federal immigration activities in Chicagoland and on the resulting protests at Broadview.

I'm now at a hearing asking the federal court to rein ICE & co in. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well, yeah, we're suing ICE.

This wasn't really a hard decision. As little faith as we have in institutions, we recognize the value of drawing visible lines in the sand. We drew ours personally a while ago, but better late than never.

May every protester be freed and may this occupation end.

It doesn’t seem that difficult to stop federal withholding, although I’m guessing there would be swift consequences.

I sort of feel like we’re beyond the point of constraining our actions to those things that are legal, given that the government is breaking all kinds of laws on a constant basis

A massive parade held for extremely few people because of fears of ICE, and a community group tried to draw awareness. The mayor directed his people to attempt to violently rip the banner and accost the person holding it. Shame on Mayor Dominick of Cicero
pgoyette.bsky.social
Community advocates in Cicero tried to join the annual Houbyfest parade today with a banner that read “ICE Out of Cicero: Silencio es complicidad. Solo el pueblo salva el pueblo.” They were intercepted and moved off the parade route by Cicero Police, one of whom was armed with an assault rifle.
Community advocates in high visibility vests March along an empty parade route with a banner reading “ICE out of Cicero“ Community advocates address the public on an empty parade route using a bullhorn. Protest signs igns read “Fuck ICE” and “Chinga la Migra. Fuera de Cicero.” Cicero event staff grabs a banner from community advocates on an empty parade route as a police SUV approaches with its illuminated. True police SUVs, two police 4x4 vehicles, and two police on foot – including one who is holding a long gun – approach community advocates along an empty parade route.

Why are “activists in Chicago” responsible for dealing with any of it? Who is the leader of Illinois?

Maybe JB should send the Illinois State Police to fend off the fucking invaders. They sure seem to enjoy cracking heads.
pgoyette.bsky.social
How is the state legislature not in emergency session right now?
pgoyette.bsky.social
If it's really an invasion (and it is) then maybe we need to do something beyond just calling it what it is. Close the borders? Deploy Illinois Guard to protect us? Some kind of economic sanctions against Texas or the US?

You said you would protect your people. It's time for action.
govpritzker.illinois.gov
We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion. It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will now involve sending in another state’s military troops.
pgoyette.bsky.social
Houbyfest is an annual celebration of Czech/Slovak culture, a timely reminder of Cicero’s long history as a destination for immigrants. The parade was poorly attended; Cicero has the fourth highest per capita Latine population in the US and has been targeted relentlessly by ICE in recent weeks.
Spectators look on as anti-ICE protesters pass in the foreground. A community advocate speaks into a megaphone at the Houbyfest parade in Cicero. Community advocates pass flyers to community members at the Houbyfest parade in Cicero.
