It reads, ""A Casa Que Não Existe / The Home That Doesn't Exist" I wanted to talk a little bit about this piece and what it's about so feel free to read below if you want to know more :) There is an unfortunate association with Instagram since I moved abroad; a place where I only see my past, all the people I had to leave behind when I left the States, all the loose ends never to be tied, the alienation I feel from everything I once knew... all looking me in the face. It's not the only reason I stopped posting here, but it's certainly a big one. For almost 3 years I've been trying to integrate into society and pick my life back up, so I didn't have a lot of room for processing the past, I've just had to keep looking forward. Then some talks this past weekend put some thoughts in my brain and I realized that avoiding Instagram (and my past) probably isn't doing me favors, and is likely just hindering my self-growth and ability to integrate into the local community. That's basically what this piece is about, facing the home I can't go back to, and trying to rebuild something out of nothing. I'd say I'm doing pretty damn well all things considered. I have friends and a boyfriend I love deeply who loves me the same, I love my community, and I love who I've become throughout my journey as an immigrant. It's all quite bittersweet and emotional. It was kind of hard to capture all my emotions in just one piece, but I think writing wraps it up."
