It started as a walk into 500 years of Peterhead gossip and events. Smugglers, heroes, poets, ghosts, war, witchcraft, murder, rebellion and piracy. Then it got a bit political...
Rudolph is a girl. As are all her colleagues pulling the sleigh. Don't knock the workplace bullying victim who stepped up and saved the day.

Apparently, historical accuracy happens to other documentary makers. The BBC was about glitz, not substance, or even (God forbid) established fact. No shame at blatant error.

My family banned me from watching more. Couldn't take the inevitable ranting.

..to fund the rebellion. All crowns and gold bling, not the barrels of good wine and other luxuries his ship unloaded in sell for hard currency. James landed in the port at Peterhead, no mucking about with his bucket and spade. The BBC ( when challenged) said their opening shot was for "atmosphere."

And the BBC. Not forgiven them for their hit job on the Stuart kings. James VIII's arrival in Peterhead in 1714 was illustrated by a presenter wandering up a long sandy beach ("he landed here." No he didn't!) and a shot of a pantomime treasure chest to represent the goods he brought to raise cash 1/

Historical documentaries aren't above including wrong details either.

It doesn't just affect the 500 direct jobs. It protects jobs in the supply chain, and in the wider local economy.

Having said that, it's good to see the UK government finally stepping up to protect jobs in Scotland - something it has conspicuously failed to do until now. It's almost like there's an election coming, and they've realised their party is about to get wiped out.

Oh. There is. And they are.

Just the scale. And the utterly wrong distribution of guilt away from extreme wealth on to people in poverty.

Will the DWP be able to look at his bank accounts without his knowledge? Government investment on this scale should always include a stake in the company. 1/

Imagine if we had a government that actually carried through it's election promises to reduce the cost of living. One that tackled the disproportionate cost of energy for homes and businesses. One that set taxes fairly and made billionaires pay their share. Imagine...

Imagine where our country would be if we had a government that protected children and vulnerable adults, and didn't demonize them as scroungers or objects of contempt. Imagine if we had a government that took swift action to prevent child poverty. Imagine we had one that stopped polluters. 1/

Support should be on obvious need, not waiting for medical approval. Anything else lets down all children. No parent should have to fight to have concerns heard. Needs must be assessed long before diagnosis when the waiting list is somewhere between 3 months (emergency referral) and 3 years.
December 15, 2025 at 4:48 PM
Accommodations are to level the playing field, to help disabled children achieve their potential. Too many children are struggling with unmet needs which don't miraculously appear on diagnosis. These needs will have been apparent to both the school and the parents long before a diagnosis is given.
December 15, 2025 at 4:48 PM
This all fits with the government's misplaced and damaging narrative of "over diagnosis" which is based around a desperate attempt to save money while condemning neurodivergent children to a second class education. Accommodations for disability are not giving advantages to some children.

I am an articulate parent, able to speak out for my child. I also support other parents who have less confidence. Sometimes, very small adjustments can make all the difference. Framing the situation as better off parent "buying" support insults all parents, and belittles their child's struggles.
December 15, 2025 at 4:48 PM
My family's experience shows how the current situation lets children down. We need serious investment in rapid diagnosis and treatment for young people struggling with mental health. We need better screening for neurodivergent children to identify their support needs early, not 18 months into crisis
December 15, 2025 at 4:48 PM
I agree that the support a child receives shouldn't depend on how well their parents can advocate on their behalf. However, from my own experience and that of other parents, the reality is that schools often guard scarce resources by dismissing parent concerns. Children who suffer quietly are missed

There have been Autistic children waiting up to three years for assessment Three years when addressing their needs could be the difference between being in school accessing an education or becoming mentally unwell. Or dropping out altogether. A needs driven system doesn't "favour" vocal parents.
December 15, 2025 at 4:48 PM
In an ideal world, diagnosis would follow swiftly from the point where struggle is identified. In practice, it can take years, and in a world where it is still possible for a health professional to refuse diagnosis on the ground that "you don't look Autistic" a second opinion is sometimes needed.

The power of words. Benefit makes it sound like a extra not a right.
Neoliberal 101 - remove all forms of socialism, even the word.

It fails on all the basic tenets of the gospel. No love, no support for the foreigner or refugee. Jesus was quite big on all these things.

More the new Anti Christ than "Christian."

The DWP don't actually want to make anything easier for claimants, because they assume everyone is out to scam them. My local job centre is currently inaccessible to wheelchair users, because the automatic doors are broken and there is no timescale for repair.

If they are lost, can't they just ask for directions, like a normal person?

Whoops. Just noticed they are men, so no - couldn't possibly do that.
December 15, 2025 at 10:15 AM
It shouldn't be that way, but it is. And until each child is assessed on need rather than diagnosis, that situation will continue.
