I am disappointed in those who make content to cater to escapism, those who won't speak up and avoid thought at all costs. They are dealers, they know their clients are addicts to self-effacing ego who will eventually go looking for a stronger fix.

I imagine those who play this line must find self-reflection distressing and the object of reflection horrific. "I don't want to think about that" is a confession of the hatred of thought itself.
But I'm not upset at this. Thinking is uncomfortable and hard, although it should be done despite this.

Not new now, wasn't new in 2019. This line of media as 'escapism' always felt like a willful self-annihilation to me. You're not escaping the world (you're always in it), you're not analyzing the media you're consuming, you're escaping yourself and the responsibility that entails
