I need university administrators (and probably some other people too, but definitely university administrators) to understand something: you cannot motivate your faculty to do more research or better teaching.

They are already maximally motivated people. They did not get the job by being […]

Her name is Jennie, and she is the Lib Dem MP for Torbay along with her human. Apparently she's been a regular at the Commons since the election and it's somehow escaped my notice.

Jennie the golden retriever has become a star in her first week in the Commons as she accompanies new MP Steve Darling. He says she's a happy-go-lucky addition to the team, despite suffering a trauma last year when she was attacked by an XL bully.

Put my back out yesterday chasing my niblings around a soft play. Welcome to your 40s!

Proper full size parsnips are significantly better than the small cheap ones. But small cheap ones are significantly better than no parsnips.

Laptop is closed and I hope I won't to have to open it until January.

Got another paper submitted this afternoon, and asked the editor not to deal with it until after the holidays. Reviewers need a break too

This is great positive news. Well done to all involved and all who supported the research. Hopefully it's affordable to scale it up for those that could benefit from the treatment

I am bad at writing papers. I think I'm very bad at finalising things, which does not help.
But I also have 4 on the go right now (not counting the ones that aren't quite formed) so it's hard to keep my head in each one
