This is undoubtedly true regardless of what Leavitt says otherwise. The Trump admin is a house of cards and Hegseth is first to fall. “Disgruntled” or not, it gives me hope that employees of these institutions are speaking out. American institutions are always greater than their temporary leaders.

But has much actually changed? Not really. Walmart’s messaging is more cautious now, but the core sentiment of DEI remains.

Moderated DEI is good for business—Walmart knows it, and so do their shareholders. Just check out their website today.

Interestingly, some companies rejecting DEI aren’t changing much beyond scrubbing the acronym from their websites. Look at Walmart: in November, they scaled back policies like racial equity training, causing a media frenzy and copycat moves.
