One of Guelph, Ontario's most beloved bar locations is a spot laying claim to the smallest bar in Canada, and it resides in the middle of an old residential area. The city, to their credit, allowed a patio. Because it was grandfathered in, something like it isn't legal in most other neighbourhoods.

28% of Ontario's population lives near major roads/highways, and the provincial public health agency outlines all the bad population health outcomes this induces (link here: www.publichealthontario.ca/-/media/docu...). Policymakers and urban planners are not connecting the dots.

While recognizing the resource constraints cities are facing w/ a brutal winter, local decisions to forgo substantive snow clearing is effectively locking some people out of accessing our cities. Regional sidewalks have been plowed quite quickly. It's not like we couldn't do this if it was funded.

1/Setting aside questions about the communications failures that led to this, the City of Kitchener should probably at least study, in conjunction with the Region, if their potential southwest boundary greenfield expansions are sustainable given our apparent new reality for water supply.
