This is the Gini coefficient from 1977 to to 2022, it is a standard measure of inequality. The higher number the less inequality. Apart for a couple of years inequality is lower now than it has ever been

When looking for an answer to this I came across this, UK per capita GDP is now higher than Germany. This is in USD terms, so you can argue with the figures. UK motivation for EU membership was always economic and I am not sure that argument exists any more
