Next four: Tarsem Singh's first feature is pretty, but not especially interesting. Testosterone, homoeroticism, and plenty of blood fly. June Squibb better call the Beekeeper. Sam Fuller's debut.
January 3, 2026 at 4:09 AM
Still logging from 2025: enthralling and messy queer noir. Tim Robinson does his uncomfortable thing on the big screen. Serviceable turn of the century Eastwood thriller. Jaden Smith sucks ass, man.
January 3, 2026 at 1:56 AM
Last four: A couple from Hamaguchi, a Shakespeare adaptation unlike anything you've likely ever seen, and James Cagney at his funniest in Billy Wilder's most rapid-fire looney tunes-ass motion picture
December 30, 2025 at 12:54 AM
A new four: franchise edition: Final Destination leans into the fun, Mission: Impossible is watchable yet a little less than ideal, Morita's tenure with Karate Kid ends ignominiously, and Takashi Miike kicks off J-horror's least valuable player.
December 29, 2025 at 3:44 AM
The latest four: Béla Tarr bookends our proceedings, with a bizarre musical starring Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters, and Mia Hansen-Løve's examination of the early 2010s dance scene.
December 27, 2025 at 7:21 AM
A new four: being by yourself for an extended period of time sucks, no question. Sicko Sonoran Dracula by way of Psycho. Don Lee is still out here punching people -extremely- fucking hard. Solo rides on the subway when you're a woman probably suck the most out of everything
December 26, 2025 at 3:44 AM
Another four: Preposterous(ly fun) 80's ninjasploitation. Goldie Hawn isn't -quite- Coach Taylor but still manages to get the job done. Schrader's best has heavyweight 70s stars at odds in a tumultuous shoot. The most unpleasant and confrontational outsider art film of all time.
December 25, 2025 at 1:17 AM
Another four: Sensei Kreese outsources his vendetta to the biggest hater in the world. Nina Hoss sings Speak Low and my whole world falls apart. Araki adds aliens to the Apocalypse. Paul Newman screams in a bear's face and lives to tell about it.
December 22, 2025 at 1:09 AM
Another four logged: A forgotten staple of the Comedy Central weekday afternoon collection. A John Ford classic. Lazy Mediterranean hangout vibes. The middle chapter in Araki's Teenage Apocalypse.
December 21, 2025 at 6:33 PM
Last four: Crichton's heist is slow going but Donald Sutherland is delightfully weird. M Night's feel-good dry run for THE SIXTH SENSE. Schimberg's feel-bad dry run for A DIFFERENT MAN. Cage gets Cagey in a predictable Ozploitation riff.
December 21, 2025 at 3:20 AM
Last four logged: Affleck and Bernthal in a watchable yet very silly second installment. Our favorite Canadian pervert reckoning with age and loss. A refreshingly tangible, complete, and thoughtful entry in the MCU. Ridley goes Tony.
December 20, 2025 at 6:27 AM
Last four logged: Yet another attempt to get Big Red right, paired with some bleak Hemingway Noir, bookended by Jean-Luc Godard really understanding the tediousness of a hot guy who sucks and won't stop talking.
December 14, 2025 at 7:22 AM
Last four logged: The gas runs out on Ghostface. Araki's definitive 90s queer cinema text. One of the messiest film productions in history still produces some interesting results. CRUISING as gay panic buddy cop comedy ages poorly
December 9, 2025 at 7:40 AM
Last four logged: Bob Hoskins is an open fucking nerve. Coogler came here to party. Zemeckis in his EC comics era. Rutger Hauer's a real bad dude, but Stallone has a sick-ass beard.
November 28, 2025 at 2:17 AM
Now seated:
November 16, 2025 at 2:03 AM
Last four: once you see South London in the 1980s, you'll never stop wanting to strangle Margaret Thatcher to death with your bare hands. Two shorts and an all-timer feature from Leo McCarey.
November 13, 2025 at 12:13 AM
Last four logged: middling sci-fi freakout. One of Hitch's most light-hearted. Video game aesthetics cripple two of the most charismatic performers of our time. Garland and Mendoza weaponize cinema as art therapy.
October 24, 2025 at 4:38 AM
And away we fuckin go
October 18, 2025 at 3:11 PM
Been a minute, but here's another four from April: Tim Story's F4 cannot be reclaimed. Daniel-san does Japan and narrowly edges out the first thanks to the nostalgia factor. How can you not be romantic about Ivan Reitman's swan song? Landon goes De Palma
October 6, 2025 at 3:09 AM
September 30, 2025 at 5:26 AM
Last four logged: Siegel goes Leone. I guess this is growing up, but with the internet. I guess this is growing up, but with bees. Ham, eggs, and coffee: the American fuckin dream
August 23, 2025 at 12:27 AM
August 21, 2025 at 3:25 AM
Get a load of this four! Upsetting, paranoia fueled Friedkin freakout. Lumet at his schmaltziest. First Blood, made for TV canuxploitation style. Everything Shirley MacLaine wears belongs in a fucking museum.
August 1, 2025 at 4:28 AM
Last four logged: Iconic (but not my favorite) Schrader with an all-timer Blondie track and Moroder score. Pryor works through some capital-S STUFF. A WORKING MAN could learn a thing or two from THE BEEKEEPER. Chaos Reigns.
