hey so uhh i'm Marx, voted TTRPGs' most horrible goose 2021-22.

i'm a freelance editor, a sometimes designer and writer, community manager for @farhorizonscoop.bsky.social, and the former host of Yes Indie'd Pod.

sometimes i do promo but mostly i post bad jokes and beatles x dnd satire.
phophos.bsky.social
that rings a bell. maybe i have read this.
phophos.bsky.social
i also love the idea that some warlock schmuck summons their patron and somebody else shows up. "sorry love, we bought your debt last month, so any future agreements are with us. don't get too comfy though..."
phophos.bsky.social
i mean, if i were a demon, i would definitely buy and sell debt like this. there are no unforeseen negative consequences of owning huge amounts of debt, i feel sure of it.
phophos.bsky.social
presumably supernatural patrons are able to pass on their charges and their debts to others, right? in case they die or are unable to continue their work. a contingency.

so they probably buy and sell debt, right? there must be a market in patron debt like there is for every other kind of debt.

of course let's pair the PM calling pro-Palestinian marches "unbritish" with a wannabe PM saying he spent 90mins in a place without seeing a single white face (derogatory).
phophos.bsky.social
Robert Jenrick? Robert Generic more like hahaha
phophos.bsky.social
supermoon,
supermoon,
does whatever a supermoon does.
can it glow,
in the sky?
probably,
it's a moon.
look up!
it is a supermoon.

CoPilot, more like NopePilot amiright
thedicemechanic.bsky.social
We've been given access to the full Microsoft Co-pilot and against all my preferences, I'm using it because (a) it might be inevitable, and (b) if it's crap, I want to be able to show people.

I had a 5 x 5 Impact/Likelihood risk grid. I asked Copilot to turn it into a colour coded chart for me.

oh no I've been unbritish all this time!
phophos.bsky.social
jumping in at the deep end and going with reconstructed brythonic, then it'll all be easy
phophos.bsky.social
welsh, gaelic, Irish, manx, cornish, English, gotta catch 'em all!
phophos.bsky.social
yeah, i might have to try that, first let me get to our prime minister to ask the question.
phophos.bsky.social
"unbritish" is such a gross, insidious term in particular because you can just stick it to anyone for anything.

don't like a protest action? Unbritish! feel a bit sketchy about a political opponent? Unbritish! not happy with the election result? Unbritish! don't like a kind of person? Unbritish!
phophos.bsky.social
told my kiddo this morning to be very cautious and skeptical when people start using words like "unbritish," because it's a word at the top of a very slippery slope with another word ("fascism") at the bottom.
phophos.bsky.social
which i think is probably a manifesto
phophos.bsky.social
the existence of "practical guide" implies the existence of "impractical guide"

unwritten: do it before you have three kids.

if you have a dream career that you want to pursue but feel like now isn't the time, it doesn't get simpler later on. it gets harder to give up what you have elsewhere.

doing it sooner rather than later means you can do it sooner and for longer, and put more energy into it.

Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?
phophos.bsky.social
sorry, fren. i got into a position in my life which many would find very appealing (financial security through a job i mostly enjoy), and i really mustn't complain. my problem is one of privilege.
phophos.bsky.social
at some point i posed the idea to my partner of going to 80% time in my day job to take up creative stuff, but we worked out very quickly that we can't manage without that 20% of my income. so a dry month would fuck us up. it sucks! so, if you want to go for something, do it when you're younger.
phophos.bsky.social
"but Marx, you didn't give up your career to do creative stuff, even part time!"

yep. i left it too late! if you wanna do it, do it now!

yes, how dare we disagree with what they tell us!
phophos.bsky.social
not content with the current crackdown on legitimate protest, uk government now giving cops the power to ban protests on the grounds of "cumulative disruption."

so now you have to a) apply to protest; b) do so in a minimally disruptive way; and c) not come back again.

how civilised.
phophos.bsky.social
hey, thanks for the context. these are all great points for something i guess should have been obvious - the US HE industry is not the same as in the UK. also sorry that i came across as callous here. think i need me some schooling.
phophos.bsky.social
you know, there are plenty of people out there who think "games design" isn't a valid subject. but it obviously is, both in the academic sense and the vocational sense. so, like, why is it that we've apparently drawn the line here?

i have no idea why i'm still arguing. i'm obviously right.
