Vintage poster encouraging recruits for the Royal Naval reserve, c1957. The significance of the image is that the individual in the centre of the group of three is my father in law who is now 84 years old and was in the Royal Naval Reserves.

Private C E Stevens, 1944. In WW2, he volunteered for the Army in 1939 at the age of 17 and served in the Royal Signals Regiment in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France.

He fought at Arnhem and was captured, and spent over a year in a prisoner-of-war camp.

Here is my Grandad (3rd in RHS), Leslie James Harris with the Kent Fire Brigade. They are wearing The Proto and Salvus breathing apparatus and we believe he was training recruits from abroad. ⠀

He retired in 1964 after 26 years of service.

9th Black Watch, 1918 Arras, France. Before they found themselves on the front line when the Germans launched their attack, code named Operation Mars.

Standing 2nd left, Captain Frederick Proudfoot had been decorated twice for gallantry with a Military Cross.
