I'd be happy to talk, but your DMs don't appear open?

Courtney it's being attached with one nail! What could possibly go wrong?
November 14, 2025 at 8:08 PM
Yeah that makes sense, but boy is this a dumb way to get it done. If nothing else do it on the *other side* where you're not just nailing it into one point the diagonal bar that will easily let the spindles rotate when the dog tries to get through.

Also use wood screws, not nails.
November 14, 2025 at 7:32 PM
A bad plan, poorly executed.

Seriously, I have watched that four times and I cannot for the life of me understand what on earth he is trying to achieve by nailing some spindles to a gate.
November 14, 2025 at 7:21 PM
Oh yes there's no principle behind any of this on the R side. I'm just talking about a different thing (propensity to move).
November 14, 2025 at 4:54 AM
The thing we were discussing is "how much money do you actually save going from NY to FL or WY?" The fact that the hospitals in WY get way more fed $ than the ones in NY doesn't change that question for an individual. The federal subsidy does make it cheaper to live in the subsidized states.
November 14, 2025 at 4:53 AM
Right, my point is that because fed income tax is uniform nationally, that money is "free" to you as a state resident. If your state gets more fed $ incoming & has lower income / sales / property taxes, that is more $ in your pocket than if your state didn't get that fed $.
November 14, 2025 at 4:47 AM
Fees are worthwhile to consider for this, but fed xfers are explicitly not a CoL difference for the residents of a state, so I don't think including them is right for analyzing the cost-of-govt factor in living in a given state.
November 14, 2025 at 4:42 AM
This isn't to contradict the core point. I don't think a couple points of marginal tax rate will get almost anyone to move. There are margins where it happens, but they're way bigger.

The more interesting q is how much more aggressive evasion you get, especially with IRS asleep at the wheel.

Apart from a few oddballs, the map still looks pretty red/blue coded.
November 14, 2025 at 3:50 AM
A state like MA is illustrative. There is a constraint is on a municipality's total property tax revenue increasing. But if prices dropped, cities and towns could jack the rates up to keep revenue steady.
November 14, 2025 at 2:08 AM
Higher property values overall don't really change relative property tax burden (except for CA because of prop 13 madness). If all home values go down, then to keep the same govt revenue the rate per $ value just would go up.

Could the US disclaim sovereign immunity and refuse to indemnify former officers who accepted pardons? Let them twist in the wind for multi-million dollar judgments from their victims.

I wonder if it's a bit of both. Like if you have some people in the room who are intent on nullifying, they're likely to also try to make the legal argument that there's no bodily injury to their peers on the jury to bring them around to a not guilty (as opposed to hanging).
November 6, 2025 at 11:43 PM
I think it makes sense. To hang you'd need basically a right wing activist willing to sit in a jury room for 2 weeks alongside the diehard nullifiers. If you're just a normie, you're not holding out for days to vote guilty on something this dumb.
November 6, 2025 at 7:46 PM
They would need a unanimous vote for acquittal. Either verdict of guilty or not guilty must be unanimous
November 5, 2025 at 11:07 PM
Like they're sleepy elections. Probably gonna be under 2 million votes cast (vs e.g. 3.5 million in the Warnock/Walker runoff in 2022). But man, 25 points.

That's IMO the dynamic behind the bonkers results in the GA Public Service Commission races tonight. D+25 statewide in GA is absolutely insane.
November 5, 2025 at 4:20 AM
Honestly the thing that has me most blown away are the GA Public Service Commission races. Not just Dems winning statewide in GA. They're racking up 20+ point margins. The baseline "if you just hold an election without big $ and natl attention" right now is something like D+25.

Lynn MA public access TV is AMAZING right now. They have to take ads because of no funding under the shutdown, and they are the most hilarious thing I have ever seen.

He very famously was kept in an "undisclosed location" when Bush did his State of the Union addressses, instead of the normal protocol of like, the VA Secy or some nobody being the person missing.
