wow steady on there! I didn't make the comment to put you down, and I sure don't assume you're stupid! If anything it was intended as a gentle reminder that though this place isn't as international as the other place was, there are more nations on here than USians! (And more than just young 'uns!)

So Bluesky of me to pipe up like this.....but to enjoy the countryside on foot you need trails and reasonable weather would be a plus! In Ireland we've a sore lack of both. Also at 95 maybe the message was intended for those generations who by now have difficulty walking long distances?

Yes, that's very true, credit where it's due (though I believe they've had a climate-skeptic gov or a while now?). There are even more initiatives at city level across the continent. I live in Germany so I admit that I've become a bit cynical in the face of the obstinacy of Europe's largest economy.

I'd agree John but i don't see wisdom prevailing in any of the other EU countries either

Yes but from who? When the sh*t really starts hitting the fan half of the EU will need flood relief and the other half wildfire relief and most larger countries will need both so who's going to be paying into that fund and who'll be getting the payouts?

5. Forgive my cynicism, but what we have before us does not look to me like a glowing paragon of consistent values and selfless behaviour. It looks like someone who will stop at very little to gain power, even if he hasn’t the faintest idea what to do with it when it arrives.

Der Grundversorgungsauftrag leitet sich aus derselben Verfassung ab, zu deren Schutz der Verfassungsschutz existiert. Wenn die eine Institution sagt, diese Partei arbeitet gegen die Grundordnung, kann die andere nicht so tun, als sei das irrelevant.
