It took me a second to realize that the dashed lines at the right side were not extensions of the plot lines (maybe representing projections, new/partially validated data, etc.) and instead are connections between the line and the label. The colors alone are enough for me but not everyone sees color

It is not a “police crackdown.” A crackdown suggests what is happening in DC is response to crime. Crime is at a decade-long low, requiring no military intervention. Your phrasing works to validate the occupation of a people by its own military.
