Losing my mind and what look like video game assets but instead were used to justify war crimes and genocide in the real world
NEW: Since October 2023, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit has released dozens of 3D animations illustrating alleged Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian sites

The style is unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war.Our analysis of 43 official IDF videos found recycled 3D environments, spatial inaccuracies, and assets lifted from unrelated artists and institutions. We traced over 30 unique assets to Washington-based 3D creator Ian Hubert, who makes bespoke models created for his sci-fi project Dynamo Dream, available to his Patreon subscribers.

Models of parking lots, antennas, + pipes were repurposed as Hamas and Iranian military sites @evanhill

Fascinating work here tracing how the IDF recycled 3D assets from a cyberpunk sci-fi art project, the Scottish Maritime Museum and elsewhere to populate its widely-seen models of supposed enemy locations in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. One of the most infamous, the alleged underground Hamas command center at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, used to justify an unprecedented assault on the biggest medical center in Gaza, was actually an animation the IDF had used the previous year, saying at the time it was a tunnel beneath a UN school.

If you think a game about going after the KKK would be controversial due to the current political climate, it's a good sign you should make a game about going after the KKK.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

I mean, the root noun of ‘virality’ is ‘virus’!

Heavily agree with this and wish I could have worked in that angle better. was doing con photography for a while (still do but not as much) but in looking at the images after I would notice, you shoot a lobby/party crowd and it’s *all* white cis guys. Getting better nowadays but still overwhelming

Yeah and I don’t think the screenwriters for ‘dude where’s my car’ would’ve been too happy with that section either LOL

Memes are artwork fulfilling communication and language roles in a manner of speech, and have been remixed since the beginning - the original humor of memes were taking the original thing out of context. Do I mean to criticize the character of the meme artists I cite? Not necessarily

The old cartoon still applies:

Fit with the piece - that struggle can be applied onto any entity, whether is someone with mental illness or a government or a corporation. The fact is modern artwork should not be limited to only one reading of it, even if created as an in-joke, it’s still worth discussing and thinking about

When Sun Yuan and Peng Yu debuted ‘Can’t Help Myself’ at the Venice Biennale, it was implicitly stated that it was abt mechanized authoritarianism. But other people interpreted it with a message of anxiety, struggle and death, individually. Not the original intent! But still that reading was able to

For the ppl saying I extrapolated too much on the memes and what they’re saying, a shortlist of further reference material:

Alex Evertech Receives a Visit From A Mute Angel
A cardboard cutout representing a "stereotypical early 2000's furry" stands over a second cardboard cutout representing a "stereotypical circuit gay furry", who is asleep in a hotel bed. The first cutout is lit by a harsh spotlight, that fades into an unnerving halo. His eyes do not fully land on the viewer, the bed, or the second figure. He wears a pendant that reads "YIFF", mirrored backwards.

I don’t think anyone is necessarily obligated to give back to furry. No one owes furry anything to partake in it. I just want ppl to consider how they’re engaging with and presenting themselves to others in ways that are fulfilling, not thinking about how they compare to peers

I do think the discussion here is proving my point though. The art is an archetype that people have dissonant and varied associations with, and variations of it keep getting made - even in action the standup was being used as a *literal* strawman to be fucked around with. We’re all projecting here

Fixed citation over to just the furry twitter handle, no IMDb or anything. Again, sorry about that, not meant with any kind of malicious intent.

I must’ve cited an out of date portfolio website, I can switch it over to the current IMBD

This was all info from links in OP’s current twitter bio (which I just checked to confirm, though it does look like the pronouns aren’t updated on portfolio site which I hyperlinked upon a 2nd check)- she has a link to her IRL socials and IMDB page on the furry twitter, also linked on a cited image
